NEC 20WGX2...need something larger.

I know I've asked this in the past, but I'm now at the point where I simply want a larger IPS. The NEC 20WGX2 has served me incredibly well over the years.

Any suggestions on what to replace it with? I do game, but am not a heavy FPSer.

I'm considering a Dell U2311H or U2410.

I'm hoping to trade the NEC, so I'd like to keep the cost as low as possible.

Thoughts?

Heh. Just don't sell your 20wmgx2 until you spend a week with your new purchase and buy from a vendor with a good return policy. IME, if you're really used to glossy then it can be hard to make the switch (especially to a dell). I definitely wouldn't recommend anything from dell to you, and unfortunately apple is the only company putting out a glossy ips. :(

Totally agree on this Ive tried 4 " 1 dell " screens so far , and not that they where bad cause they weren't , it hard after being on a 20wgx2 with the glossy screen fast refresh and nice darks , to get used a matte screen , I actually get a headache from the AG coating

t's not cheap, but it looks like the 27" Apple Cinema Display is the first real thing to replace the NEC 20WMGX2. See the megathread about it:

Im getting ready to try it cause it actuality looks like the only successor to 20wmgx with some ghosting maybe

Man I just can't get away from this NEC with out spending $1K! I see what you guys are saying, I wish it wasn't this hard lol!

Since you mention cost, the u2311h is probably what you should be looking at. The other current IPS screens on market that are more expensive are necessarily better (and are worse in some areas), which from a value perspective makes it hard to justify the higher costs, at least for me anyways.

Unless you need some specific features like a glossy screen, x1200 over x1080 resolution, wide gamut, and etc, it is the best screen from a cost perspective.

Compared to your current screen the u2311h measures comparably or better. It has significantly better contrast/black levels then screens like the u2410, which means you are upgrading in those areas from your screen. The only issue would be glossy vs. matte screen.

I agree with limitedaccess , he pretty much on spot with what hes saying , only thing Im going to add is with going to the u2311h or the NEC EA231WMi your only gaining 270 pixels sideways and your losing your glossy screen. but if your screen is losing its color or back-lighting u2311h or NEC EA231WMi is the way to go

here a pic to show NEC EA231WMi next to a NEC 20WMGX2

I still haven't found a suitable replacement for my 20wmgx2. I play mostly FPS games, and some mmo's so input lag cant be to high. I'm probably gonna use my gx2 until it fails since it's that good but I would love a screen in the 26inch range thats IPS, glossy, and low input lag.

Agreed and same here , I use one on both my pc,s . . hopefully I can get this new apple looks like it will fit the bill

Thanks again for the comments. What's funny is that I did an ok amount of research on the 20WMGX2 before I purchased it 4 years ago, but not a ton. It turned out to be the best PC purchase I've ever made.

The screen itself is fine. Over the last year or so, it just feels like 20" isn't cutting it any more, regardless of how awesome the monitor is. I've tried to find refurbished ones, but they're either out of stock or selling for insane prices.

The Apple has my eye, but we're saving for a wedding. If that showed up I'd be toast! Hence why I'm looking to trade it.

This is a question that still plagues me...

I too want to move up to 24-26", and 1080p, but can't find an appropriate replacement. I was looking at the NEC 2690wuxi2, but 30ms of input lag is too much when coming from the 20wgx2.

Anyone made the jump to something else happily?

I appreciate all the feedback. I ended up moving on to the Dell U2311H. I had to return it due to a tinting issue, but it was amazing on the games I tried on it. I'm actually looking to trade my GX2 if any one is interested. I have a thread started in the FS/FT forum.

If the second U2311H is a bust then I'm going to try the U2410.

I really did enjoy the WMGX2, but after seeing a few other monitors, it felt like the right time to change. Moving up in size was also a huge bonus for me.
