This is my first lcd. I knew before i bought it that lcd's are badly flawed but this display is actually even worse than i expected. The input lag is very annoying and i also hate having to use 60hz wich is just not anough at all, i hope they make 120hz displays soon and fix the input lag problem since this is just a temporary monitor and im planning a new one in 18 months. These are problems i had expected, what i didnt expect are the very bad viewing angles and the noise across the whole screen. The contrast changes dramatically when only looking at a slight angle and on blacks i can see a yellow and purple glow, the most obvious being the yellow/gold glow in the bottom corners of the screen on this site.
The noise problem is very annoying too, it just came to me this might be a 6bit panel with dithering? But even if it isnt and this is caused by something else then what is the point of 8bit if the lcd's are this noisy anyways. I can also see some brightness variations across the screen, i dont know if this is a backlight problem or something in the panel?
Anyways i am wondering if all this is normal and what others think about it?
Since i havent read anything about this noise pattern and the yellow and purple glow on ips, and im very surprised about the crappy viewangles.

I just tested with a black screen and its even worse than i thought, there is yellow shining trough in the bottom corners and some blobs on the top too and its also a lot worse on the left bottom corner. I can also see vertical breaks in the glass. there are color blobs shining trough even when looking straight on.
Could someone verify that all this is normal or if i have a damaged display?
Where the hell is my oled?!

I don't know about that monitor, but NEC is supposed to have great displays. Backlight bleed is what you're seeing, and it's is pretty normal. Most displays tend to have some. If you think it's too much or you just can't stand the monitor, return it. It's a bit silly to go out and buy an LCD when you've presupposed that LCDs are flawed.

Your other problems sound like the display may be a bit defective, unless that specific model is lacking.

It would be a hassle to return it and i wouldnt want to do it since there is no guarantee the next one will be better. I had to buy an lcd since oleds are not available yet :( , i know crt's are better in many ways but they dont make any good ones anymore and i am more interested in the advantages of lcd anyways but im still very disapointed in how bad the problems of this display are. I would just want some verification that it isnt defective.
Those breaks in the surface i mentioned are visible on a dark screen, with the lights on i can see breaks in the brightness of the reflected light, there are two near vertical columns on the screen. The surface seems perfectly smooth, i think there may be some ripples on the backside of the glass or maybe the coatings are inconsistent.

Sounds defective to me. I would exchange it. The panel is an 8 bit S-IPS so there is no dithereing. you may want to try and calibrate before you determine it is unsatisfactory.

Can you tell me what causes the noise? I had seen this on the monitor of a friend too recently, before that i didnt know lcd's had it. I guess its probably randomness in the possitions of the crystals per pixel or maybe its a pattern created from the diffuse coating on the glass.
I dont have anything for calibrating, but i didnt think it could compensate for backlight bleeding anyways.
I am wondering what colorcomp does? I tried it but i cant see any difference.
