hey, i was just cleaning my moniter, and i have streaks inside of it. i cant get them out now. wtf! i took pics, but do not know how to post them. please help.

Could be moire... hit this web site. http://www.pinch.com/tweak/focus-grid.html
Assuming you don't have the cheapest model of NEC monitor around, there should be a moire adjustment somewhere in the controls. Assuming that's the case, you should be able to use the test pattern on that page to adjust the monitor to minimize the pattern.

what does that link do?

It's just a web page with a test pattern. If it's a moire problem, the test pattern will make it really easy to spot. Moire can show up on solid colors, or even in graphics if it's really, really bad, but a grid pattern like the one on that page really brings it out so you'll know if that's what it is and can see it well enough to adjust your screen to minimize or eleminate the effect.

Oh crap. I didn't realize they were visible when the screen was off. Are you sure they're inside the monitor and not on the outside? It's hard to tell when you're looking at it, but the front of a monitor is about an inch of heavy leaded glass. Plus there's a vacuum in there, and if anything got in there the screen would probably be toast. Could be a damaged anti-glare coating I suppose. What did you use to clean it? I usually use a wet cotton sock on my screens.

i used a paper towel.

Just a wet paper towel? That shoundn't cause that. A soft cloth is better, but it's like using a terricloth towel to dry your car instead of a shammy. Not quite as good, but it's not like it's going to destroy the finish. I usually use paper towels at work, as there's generally a shortage of old cotton socks at the office.
What's it look like when it's on? Does the image under the bad spots look ok? I'm still trying to figure out if it's a damaged coating or something stuck to the screen.

I havn't seen the picture, but did you clean it with water and then didn't wipe it dry? It could be just the water (hopefully on the surface) that just dried weird. Try washing it again and then dry it with something clean.

nope, its certanly not on the surface. cant even wipe it off.

Ouch. That really sucks. I don't think there's much that can really be done out that aside from stripping off the rest of it off so at least the whole screen looks the same. That might be ok in a glare-free room, but it'll still be annoying.
New monitor time?

i know, this really sucks. ill just go use my old school 15inch compaq moniter.

host the pic at imageshack.us

I'm curious...has me worried now actually

If it's fubar enough that you can't stand it, I'd give stripping off the rest of the coating a try. Umm... just use whatever kind of cleaner you're not supposed to use. Try to minimize the amount that gets on the bezel.
If you're in need of a cheap screen, I hear this is a good place: www.merkortech.com
I almost ordered a 21" Sony from there before I noticed the 24" Sony GDM-FW900 monitors were going for around $350-500 on eBay. 3 years old & cost me almost as much (paid $478 shipped) as a new 22" NEC, but worth every penny.
Most of www.merkortech.com's stuff is off lease equipment, as is a lot of what's available on eBay. Figure it's usually around 3 years old as that's a pretty typical term for a computer equipment lease.

That must suck man

I'm just curious, did you use like sandpaper to clean your monitor?
I mean...isnt it kinda common sense not to use anything like alchohol, or someting that might scrach the surface?

Alchohol... I dunno. Is there Alchohol in Windex? As for the scratching, a lot of people use paper towels. They're more abraisive than a soft cloth, but it'd take a whole lot of scrubbing to kill the coating with a paper towel alone.

I've noticed it difficult to get a streak free shine with windex on my NEC. I usually just use water and a brawny.

Don't have anything that looks like that though.

I use windex too, but only if I can't get it off easily with water. Since most of what's there is just dust and sneeze residue, Windex isn't usually needed. The dust comes right off, and the sneeze residue just needs to be wet a few seconds. I know, sounds kinda gross, but it's true dammit. Now admittedly I did get beer on my monitor the first time I saw this "I have no clue what you're talking about, so here's a picture of a bunny with a pancake on it's head" picture, but that's pretty rare. Of course, if I manage to get something like a burrito related streak on there, then it's Windex time.
I've never seen any problems from using Windex, I'm just a little paranoid. More so now that I have a really sweet screen that isn't made anymore. As for the paper towel, a soft cloth is better, but unless you're cleaning it really often it'll take quite a long time to wreck the coating. A soft cloth will eventually wear it off too, it'll just take longer. I clean my screens maybe 2-4 times/year.
