NEC 1760NX LCD questions

I've got my eye on the NEC 1760NX and really like the specs. Dell has it for about $420 with their 10% off. On dell's website it says the resolution is 1280x1024 at 60HZ. I thought that LCDs didn't have refresh rates like 60hz. If it really is 60hz, is it like 60hz on a CRT? I can't stand looking at 60HZ on my CRT, hurts my eyes.

What is everybody's opinion on the NEC 1760NX??

Thanks,
Max

The monitor uses the same AU Optronics panel as the Hitachi CML-174 and 175, the Viewsonic VP171, and others. The panel has a response time of 16ms and displays 16.2M colors. The refresh rate of 60Hz does not mean the same as 60Hz for a CRT. In fact, refresh rates in LCDs don't really mean much since the screen isn't actually refreshed 60 times a second. Each pixel is individually either on or off.
One thing to keep in mind is that I think the 1760NX doesn't come with the DVI cable. Also, if you won't use DVI, save some # and go for the 1760V. Same monitor, but only with a VGA connector.

Look around and unless you really need it soon you may want to wait. Dell throws 15% off LCDs with a stackable $30 off every once in a while.

I ordered a 1760NX from Dell on Dec 30th during the last 15% off sale. Got email telling me it wouldn't ship until the Jan 6th. On Jan 6th I received another email telling me it wouldn't ship until the 13th. I didn't want to wait that long so I cancelled and ordered a VP171p from else where, received it friday the 9th. Same Panel Few more features.

Later,
Hans

I read a few of the threads on the Viewsonic 171 and I like it even better....

I'll still try to order through Dell because of their replacement plan.

What do you think my impressions would be coming off a 19inch Dell Trinitron monitor, mainly playing CS, for the Viewsonic 171??

I sold my Dell 19" P991 and replaced it with the Viewsonic for my secondary workstation. I 've played BF1942 and Call of duty on it as well as watched Fast & Furious and Goldeneye without issue. The image is Bright & Clear and Colors are Vivid. I'm very pleased so far. I'm sure you will be too.

For me, it's now the Sony S73B vs Viewsonic VP171B.

The sony looks about as cool as the Viewsonic, but doesn't do the 90 degree turn thing, which doesn't bother me really. The sony is also $80 cheaper, but $80 isn't enough to sacrafice performance or quality. Does the sony come with a DVI cable??

Thanks

It doesn't have a Digital/DVI input at all and it's not as bright as the 1760nx or VP171b. (250cd vs 260cd) Stand is not height adjustable.

I think I'll get the VP171B then..... when I get the money that is. I'll sell my monitor for $175 or so, then I have about $200 in my pocket now, then I'll get about $100 for Bday, then I can take whatever is left from my savings account.

If my dell trinitron is 3 or 4 years old, can it burn out? Like if I sell it to somebody, what are the chances it would go bad soon?

Also, I LAN alot, and how would you guys reccomend transporting the LCD? I'm worried about scratching the screen, so would a soft sack work or something? Like a pillow case? I guess i could take it in it's box, if it isn't too big.

you can buy one of those 'bags'. they have shoulder straps and you just put the lcd in it. they're all padded, etc. and, as for the burning out issue. i have a 17inch tritron that came with my gateway. the computer was BRAND NEW when 200mhz pentiums just came out. Its aging, but the damn thing won't blow up. i almost wish it would so that i could then buy a flat screen. But, i think your liability on ebay would be that it arrives in working condition. Thats it.

I'll be buying either the 1760NX or VP171 in the Spring for my next computer. Both are awesome digital input monitors. Great for gaming, and all that good stuff not to mention good reviews everywhere :).
