NDISHLP.SYS error when booting into Windows 98

Hi guys, my dad has an old compaq presario 1600S laptop (400MHz, eeek), and he uses it for work so he has a lot of important information on it. but today when he tried to boot up, it said it could not boot into Win98 becuase an error with "NDISHLP.SYS" he also cant get into a dos prompt to copy files, and i dont know what i can do to help him. any suggestions? thanks!!
 
Well worst case scenerio you could just move the hard drive to a differant pc to make a backup, thats providing the hdd didnt die.
 
too bad its a 6 year old lap top (or so), but my dad figured it out. mcafee was messing it up. got into windows in safe mode, deleted mcafee, booted up normally. thanks for the suggestion though ;-)
