ND-3350A quick question:

ooooooooh.... so getting an additional DVD drive is kinda pointless today? (if your getting a dvd burner)

Potentially...

With a DVD-ROM drive, chances are you don't have a locked read-speed. With that NEC you are going to suffer from the dreaded "rip-lock" which _artificially_ limits your speed you can read data from a DVD. Basically, standalone DVD-ROM readers are great for ripping.

Now, since you are an astute reader and picked the NEC, you will be glad to know there are several hacked firmware's that REMOVE the rip-lock making this brand _quite_ attractive for its price, quality and potential performance.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you where to get the modified firmware (I'm ignorant because my plextor doesnt suffer from that issue) but someone here can direct you, or use the "Search Thread" tool to find a link.
