I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 and it supports NCQ. It's plugged into an nForce4 SATA port on my MSI K8N Neo5 Plat non-SLI. How do I know if the NCQ is working or not?

Are you using the NV IDE drivers or the generic Windows ATA drives? You will need the NV drivers to use NCQ, but be prepared to experience bizarre issues if you install the NV IDE drivers. NCQ just isn't worth it for most desktops.

I'm using all the nVidia drivers that are included in the 6.66 nForce4 package. This includes nVidia IDE drivers. Haven't experienced any bizarre issues though, I could be lucky.

If that's the case, Start\Run\devmgmt.msc, then right click the drive and bring up its properties. You should be able to change SATA feature settings, I think o nthe "Policies" tab.

?? Why is it necessary to install Nvidia IDE drivers if you use a SATA-drive?

I also have installed Nvidia Drivers 6.66 (wihtout IDE driver) ... But where can I find out that it has been installed? The properties of several Nvidia devices give me different driver-"numbers" - for example "Nvidia Network Bus Enumerator" shows driverversion "4.8.2.0 but not 6.66.

And the driver for my Sata2 HD is 5.1.2535.0 (date 07/01/2001) from Microsoft - so I think this blocks my NCQ? Tried to actualize the driver (gave the path to the folder that contains my Nvidia 6.66 driver) but it was not possible for me :-(

How can I proof that NCQ is actually working?

Can anybody help?
