I just built a new gaming rig and I used a 74GB Raptor for the hard drive. I just read the review on the new "Raptor150" and I noticed that SR made it very clear that TCQ or NCQ for single users doesnt help performance any. How do I know if TCQ is enabled on my drive and how can i turn it off? I looked in the BIOS and device manager but didnt see anything. Thanks.
 
surely there is a way to turn this option on and off, anyone know how?
 
I dont know where exactly but I would look under device manager properties for the drive, usually you can mess with some settings there. Vista will supposedly be designed to take advantage of ncq, so hopefully it will be used as intended soon.
 
Depends on the chipset. For nForce 4, it is under device manager, IDE ATA controllers and the controller/channel your drive is attached to.
 
There are *very few* SATA controllers that support TCQ
A quick search at newegg shows that promise has a few cards (TX 300, 2300, 4200), highpoint has at least one (1820a), and I know that Talon makes a 2-port TCQ compatable card. nForce 4 on-board SATA does not support TCQ

OK thanks a lot. Many thats why I can't find anything about it at all in the Device Manager. Just wondering, the onboard nForce4 SATA controller doesnt support TCQ, does it support NCQ? If it does would I have to have the Nvidia IDE drivers to use it? Currently I dont have the Nvidia IDE drivers but the default Microsoft drivers.

Thank you. Guess I should have asked earlier but im guessing that the Microsoft drivers do not support NCQ?

From what I have been told, no. I am using the MS drivers with my Raptor too.
