NB voltage vs CPU NB VID

Guys,

I have an AMD 720be that I am trying to overclock. I am fairly new at this but could someone explain to me the difference between NB voltage and CPU NB VID. Which one would I need to increase to overclock my CPU?
 
depends on the motherboard.. NB should be your chipset voltage and CPU NB VID should be your actual NB IMC thats on the chip its self.. but some one correct me if im wrong since my AM2+ motherboard doesnt have these options..

That's right. There's really no reason to raise the chipset voltage, so don't muck around with it. The important one is the CPU-NBVID, especially if you use all four RAM slots and/or overclock the Uncore(IMC,NB,L3cache).

Not sure but maybe my motherboard is just not a great overclocker. If I bump the NB voltage up by .1, I can unlock/oc my 720be to 3.2ghz at stock CPU & CPU NB VID.

When I leave the NB voltage at stock and increase the CPU & CPU NB VID to 1.4 and 1.3, my computer reboots after a few minutes of running Prime95 large test.
 
depending on the chipset you have raising the chipset .1v wont make that much of a difference temp wise.. i use to run my 780G at 1.25v instead of 1.15v only added 4C to the temp.. you shouldnt have to touch the NB voltage unless you are trying to overclock using the FSB(HT).. try overclocking just using the voltage and multiplier..

I have the gigabyte 785G-UD2H mATX motherboard. I believe the memory controller on this board is not the greatest. I can run the prime95 small test for days without errors with the cpu unlocked and at stock voltage all the way to 3.4ghz, but it dies within minutes during the prime95 large test. Only way I can get the computer stable is by either bumping the motherboard's NB or the ram's voltage.

I have ruled out the ram being faulty as I have tried other sets of ram I have and it is the same way.
