this is a copy of what i sent ATI...i think my card is overheating, it sucks

well when i play any games that require alot of 3d processing power the card will work properly for a short period of time...then in any game or in any program that requiires alot of rendering the card will i think overheat and reset the system. THe card is getting normal voltage from the mobo and is seated correctly. It only happens w/ games that are very GPU intensive for example...Quake 3 will run fine but Doom3, Starwars battlyfront, Battlefield 1942, far cry, UNreal Tournamrnt 2003+4, ect. will cause the card to get super hot and the system will restart OR the screen will lock black and i will have to do a hard reset of the system. When i touch the top of the card with the system powered off it is extremely hot to the touch. MY system is NOT overclocked specs are as followed: AMD athlon XP 3200 +
1 GB Kingston DDR 3500
Seagate 120 GB SATA HD
Asus a7n8x deluxe rev 1.1
nforce 2
onboard sound and ethernet
entire system watercooled except for your vidcard.
im using the DVI connection w/ a samsung syncmaster 191T LCD monitor.
all drivers are up to date.
in the bios the card is set to use agp 8x. The card performs flawlessley otherwise.
most games are played at 1280x1024 with aa and AF off

sorry for the shitty typing, i really dont care about grammar

thx in advance!

Hahaha, so you're running a water cooled system with nothing overclocked eh? And everything is under water, except the video card of course. I'm sure they'll take your case seriously :p

Although I do feel for you, I'd be pissed. I'd also use proper grammar and spelling when sending an E-Mail regarding my issue to a company, but hey, that's me.

RMA that beast.

you know whats funny? hahaha
i really dont have anything overclocked..nothing, i used to but Put eveything back to stock a while ago when i started getting problmems.

I just let my system sit for about an hour..the card was cool, i booted and went directly into starwars battlefront and i played for about 2 min and it just rebooted itself...so mabye its not overheating, mabye its just a peice of shit?

Oh, so you HAD everything overclocked (thereby voiding all warranties), but started getting problems, so you put it all back on stock and are still having issues. Forgot to mention that part in the E-Mail though.

Technically you can pretty much RMA anything, so you're lucky. Otherwise I think they'd just laugh at you :)

well they sent me back some automated bullshit message..i guess im calling them on monday

Hey...my system does exactly the same thing in Battlefront. For no reason, 5 min or so into the game...a reboot. Doesnt do it on Far Cry or Doom 3 or Dawn Of War. Thats peculiar I must say....

tell me one thing, how many sticks of ram do you have and tell me how there seated in your DIMM slots, i had this prob too, was dualchannel prob, but me lub's my A7n8x 2.0 :)

here might as well type this out, if u have 2 sticks of 512, leave the middle DIMM slot empty, my prob was cause the mem was not the same, as in i had a 512 stick and 2 256 sticks, fixed by replacing 2 sticks with 1. if u do have 3 sticks, try taking out all but one and running a game, jsut for experiments sake

edit: obtw, when i had this prob i thought it was a heat problem too, with my ram, so i went out and bought like 30 heatsinks fitting every last one on my card, double stacking some etc. when it still crashed i thought it was a bad mobo, then i get a mem error one day, take some sticks out and problem fixed...

Can be caused by cpu as well, or bad ram or psu... honestly it could be anything, motherboard as well. You need to verify that it isn't some other thing in your system before you waste an RMA. Switch out vid cards and see what happens.

PSU is a ANtec trupower 420

YEa im running in dual channel and i was thingking mabye it was my ram too...im going to run memtest 86 later today..and ill post after results.

im sure its not the CPU becuase ive used this board with a 2800 barton a 3000 and a 3200 and i get the same problmes with all of them.

i totally agree Cleanslate..ive swapped out vid carsds before but with nothing that has the capabilities that this card does...i also suspect mobo BUT this is the ONLY problem i have...otherwise my system runs fast and flawlessly

well i ran memtest x86 and found zero errors on all tests...so i guess its not my ram
it could always be my mobo...
ive had bad luck in the past,

i really think its my vid card

anyone in the NJ area willring to help me out? with a powerful test card? ill furnish you with beer if you help me out!

its not bad ram, im sayin it might be bad banked ram, try moving ur ram to diff slots. i was arrogant when someone mentioned mem probs, i said no way, tried what they said a week later and it fixed it :p

It doesnt amtter the capabilities, put one in, play games that that vid card can play, for hours and if u crash it isn't the vid card.

yea but im talking like if it works 20 min MAX otherwise Star Wars Battle front and doom3 will not only run for any hwre from 1 min to 5 min with out crashing....some times the screen will go black and the sounds will keep playing in the backround as normal..not as a loop, wierd eh?

i tried switching dimm slots to no avial and trying differnt memeory with the same problems.

ive also formatted this drive about 2 months ago and reinstalled XP pro with the same results immeadeatly after the format with all current drivers and blah balh blah...

i think i should test it tho with another vid card...we shall see what happens?!?!

whoops sorry, im using 2 sticks of Kingston HyperX PC 3500 512 MB each for a total of 1 GB

hmmm just for experiments sake try 1 stick of ram, i am convinced its the prob lol

hahah you know, i tried evey configuration with 2 sticks and it didnt work...ill try 1 stick now...and i tried to call ATI. BUT NO!!! its stupid canadian thanksgiving or some shit.

edit: tried with one stick in all slots switching them...with same piss poor results
