Nausea while playing HL2?

I had a horrible motion sickness type feeling when playing, especially during the vehicle sequences. After changing the FOV to 90, I was fine.

How?

Bump...how IS the field of view changed? Someone help me before my head explodes from playing...

I can add to this list. I've been playing shooters since Doom (like many of us) and I've never experienced a "wow, I'm gonna heave" moment until Half-Life 2. For me, the worst part was crossing under the bridge. I'm bad at heights in real life and the draw depth made that part really difficult for me to play. Ugh.

P.S. Okay, not the only one feeling sick on the bridge. And perhaps the game really is just a little too realistic and well-drawn for the brain to keep things straight.

I WISH it gave me nausea, that would be a cool effect

I would be interested in finding out, also

The original Half Life did that to me and worse on the first scene right after getting off the mine car. I had to quit completely. The bridge in HL2 didnt bother me at all.

Motion Sickness Victims- try tinkering with the monitor refresh rate. It needs to be at least 72, but a little higher if you can. It's not a "cure-all" but I've seen it help.

Not to change the subject, but Vampire: the masquerade has made me VERY ill on several occasions. I dont think I played HL2 for a long enough time span to effect me, but more then once I would play through a marathon session of vampire and have it happen. I've been playing FPS games since doom on a 386 and never had that happen.
I think it might be a problem with source that no one has stumbled on yet, its odd. I have 75 refresh, but there is no option for vsync so I cant play that game for more then an hour. Pity, I like it.

I've never gotten sick playing HL2, or any other game. I did, however, nearly toss my lunch on the tea cup ride at six flags.

Those evil tea cups. :D

Spare a thought for 'ickle me. I experience nausea playing any FPS game. It started the first time I played Wolfenstein and is still bad to this day (I am 27 years old). Occasionally I can play FPS games for an hour or two with no ill effects, but it is really bad at the moment and I can't play Splinter Cell for more than a few minutes without feeling as though I'm going to hurl. I've been playing the frickin' game for months now cos I can't get into it properly with just the odd ten-minute spell. The severity fluctuates and, despite some 10 or 11 years of experimentation, I can't put my finger on what factors influence this.

Bizzarly, I used to get motion sickness as a kid, but that cleared up many years ago and the computer game problem seems to have taken its place. I hope to try HL2 before too long (when I've finally finished Splinter Cell) and it will be interesting to see how severe the problem is with that.

I've never gotten nausea from any game.

I've beaten HL2 five times and haven't felt the slightest bit sick. Although I do have a slight fear of heights so the bridge sequence always gets to me.

i play HL2, CS:S, and HL2:DM for hours on end without any sign of sickness/headaches.

sounds pretty weird. maybe valve hates us all(true) and they are TRYING to do it...hmmmm >.>

I got a 2005fpw LCD from Dell and it helped quite a bit, widescreen is the way to go. (1680X1050)

I'm in the "never had the problem" catagory:

19" Viewsonic LCD (Vx900)
ATI 9800Pro refresh rate jacked to 100
game settings in HL2 jacked pretty high

I sit about 3 feet from monitor in various seating position.

I think this is the key to me for probably this game and most FPS':
I go out and have a smoke about once an hour or hour and a half. I do this at LAN's to I think it helps me out as much as the adverse effects of smoking have hurt me.

HAHA HL2 comes with a carton of smokes? Different package options. Smokes/alka seltzer/throw up bag ala airlines HAHAHAHA

Im also in the "never had the problem" category, on the pc that is.

On the xbox, now thats another story, if i play just about any FPS for too long the ol' tummy gets a little queasy
