Native resolution??!

Hey, i see that there is no response to my LG L1720 thread(just one), maybe there is no one with that monitor around, but nevertheless, please guys, please explain me that native resolution.
Can i set my Native resolution to what i want, for example 1024X768, allthough monitor supports higher?, or does monitor have only one Native resolution, and that you can't change it?
Please clear this out to me, it really holds me to buy an LCD before this thing gets cleared.
For example if i set my resolution in desktop to 1024x768, and when i play games, and set the resolution in game to 800x600, does it gets worse, how worse, is it really big deal, or is it not noticeable??

The native resolution is what the panel looks best on, sharpest text etc.

It's more important because on LCDs the corruption can be much worse on non-native resolutions then CRTs.

It's significant because you better be sure that your graphics card can play the games you want comfortably at that resolution.

Is it really bad, and does the response time got slower???

I've got a Viewsonic VP171b 17" with a native res of 1280x1024. Now, with my 3ghz P4 and Radeon 9700NP I can run most games at that res, but not all. For those games that I had to run at a lower res, I've found that 1024x768 or even 800x600 still looks fine- it's a little more blurry and such, but in the heat of battle you're not going to care. Also, the text looks pretty bad, but it's still plenty readable, so you shouldn't have problems with in-game communication or anything of the sort.

I always thought native resolution for lcd's was the physical resolution the Lcd was built with, Because I have never seen a Lcd that can do over its native, without doing scrolling or compression. Tell me if i am wrong though.

Thanks mpeg4v3 fot that, it really helped me, it's good to know that it isn't that bad for games, but you sad that is bad for text, but i wouldn't change Native resolution in desktop so i don't have to worry about that..... do i?

So guys, i am really made up my mind to buy an LCD these days when i get my paycheck, so please tell me a couple of things that still bodders me.
Will i get poor colors on LCD(LGL1720B for example), is there going to be huge diifference then on CRT, because i work allot with photograps and graphic design, so please tell me more about colors.....
Things like ghosting, and native resolution have been cleared out..
And also viewing angles, when they say, viewing angle horizontaly is 160, does that means that picture is perfect(as i am in front of the monitor) till that 160?, or that is vieweble till 160, but it's not the same as i am sitting in front of the monitor??
So please clear this out for me if you can, i am really thinking of buying an LCD, but i am not rich or anything, so this is really big desicion to me, so i want to be sure before spending that kind of money.......

CRTs display colors pretty much perfectly (assuming they're calibrated, which is relatively easy to do).

LCDs can not display colors with anywhere the accuracy of CRTs, which is the reason why anyone who works a lot with graphics, video, etc. (work or otherwise) uses a CRT.

The only place where I consider LCDs to be an appropriate choice is in a business environment, for the receptionist and office drones, as well as in cramped environments.
