Ok, I have fixed this problem before by I am not sure whats wrong now. My azureus dowloads speeds are really low now. My comp set up on a router and my laptop is connected to it as well. I use a dsl modem. I do ipconfig, and im not sure which ip adress to use to forward. Is it the one that says ip address? Or is ith the default gateway, or subnet mask? dhcp server, dns server. Well i am tying to forward tcp and udp ports for azureus and i still get a nat error. I have windows firewall turned off. I thought a router kept my ip address the same and the ip address on my laptop is 101 while my comp ends with 100. Is there something i need to change in my router settings? And if so how do i do that? If you need any more information about my comp let me know please. I really want to solve this problem. Thanks

currently forwarded ip address from ipconfig ports 6881-6899 tcp and udp on both router and modem.

yeah right now i ahve 6881-6899 forwarded to my "ip address" and it doesnt work

i found that i needed to forward ports on my router as well, but it says i have a different ip address. i dont know which one to use.
***.168.1.100 ipconfig ip address on my comp
***.168.1.101 ipconfig ip address on my laptop
***.168.0.1 LAN ip address from actiontec dsl modem
**.33.65.157 WAN ip address from actiontec dsl modem
**.33.65.157 external ip address from www.portforward.com
***.168.0.2 ip address of router on linksys router
***.168.1.1 ip address of local network on linksys router.

this is not to mention all the subnet masks, dns addresses as well.
as you can see, i have no idea which ones to forward. nothing seems to be getting it to work right.

I get this same error.... here's some info on my situation (rather than making a new thread)

The first picture is the error I get when testing NAT settings to see if I am getting the best possible connection. The second picture is my settings on my router--note the where is says Azureus at the bottom along with the ports forwarded. I have both UDP and TCP enabled under "trigger" and "public" ports.

I get this error in azureus and as you can see my d/l's are almost always bellow 10KBps (im on DSL).

How do I fix this? :D

ive tried pretty much all the ips, do i use a different ip for my router then my modem, or should they be the same. my downloads are crawling on azureus. im sure someone has had this problem. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Why should we help you steal software and movies and break the rules of the forum while we are at it? All Azureus is is a bittorrent program to allow you to download that which doesn't belong to you and you have no legal rights to.

There's perfectly legal uses for torrents, and if your ranting against it (based upon the illegal ones) contribute to it being shut down, you've done a lot of people a big disservice. So in a reasonably non-offensive way: Please shut up.

Or to go by your signature, I find banning something merely because it can be used for something illegal quite despicable. Down that road lies a kind of government neither of us want.

There are legal uses for bittorrent. While the overwhelming amount of its use are for illegal purposes, the legal uses for it continue to grow. I believe that WOW uses bittorrent to distribute patches now even. Generally, if there is a legal purpose for an action or program, the forums err on the side of allowing it to be discussed, until someone specifically mentions something that is against the rules, from what I have seen.
To say there is no legal reason to be using Azareus is not correct.

I'm not saying to shut it down at all. I could care less. You're just not allowed to discuss it in this forum.

There are very few legitimate reasons for bittorrent. I wasn't born yesterday and I have surfed all the bittorrent sites myself when I was bored. I know what it is all about so don't even bother going there.

I do not see how that forum rule stops us from discussing how to use a torrent client, and it's your leap from "it can be used for something illegal" to "we can't discuss it here" (implying that it is, in itself, illegal) I strongly object to. It's like stopping the entire gun forum because guns can be (and sometimes are) used for illegal things.

They're both tools (for getting data and making holes, respectively), and discussing them in themselves is not illegal. Moving into specific uses can of course be another thing entirely. If he had asked "How do I get <something copyrighted> with azureus" I would have agreed with you.

As for wanting to shut it down: Torrents themselves are as innocent as the ftp protocol, but propagate the idea that they're only used for illegalities, and that won't matter. You're definitely doing that.

Wow, we sure are lucky you're here to make these decisions for us. Not.

Now, back to the original issue.
I note that your router and modem speak together on a local network, and you got the WAN address from the modem in some way. You're sure it's a modem and not a(nother) router?

As for what IP goes where: You want to forward connections to the port range from the outside to 192.168.0.100 , the IP of your computer.
Also, does your router automatically open the right ports in its firewall when you forward them? (It's very likely that it does, but not guaranteed.)

A note: All 192.168.x.x - addresses are non-routable and used in local networks. There's no need to censor them; there's probably tens of thousands of computers with the address 192.168.0.100 in the world, and no way to find them.
(The same goes for 10.x.x.x, btw.)

wow didn;t expect to see all of those responses.

anyways my dsl modem i think is just modem, it only has one port and its going to my router. its a actiontec gt701-wg modem.

so forward my comps IP 192.168.0.100 through both my router and my modem?
my comps IP is 192.168.1.100
my router will only let me adjust the last 3 digits when i port forward. so im not able to put in 192.168.0.100

my router does automatically accept them, it doesn;t have to reboot like my modem. at least i dont think it does.

I have an actiontec DSL modem at a small business site, and it also acts as a router, so you have to port forward the port on the actiontec to the WAN IP of the router if that is the case.

how do i know the WAN IP of the router? is that just the router IP?

local ip address on router 192.168.1.1
internet ip address 192.168.0.2 <---- i assume its this one.

Holy shit it worked. i forwarded the interent ip address of my router to the modem and my ip addrerss of my comp to my router and that got rid of my NAT error. thank you HHunt and Darkstar.
would doing this for internet games also help my ping or any other online programs?

i never thought i would ever see the green light in azureus again. thanks

Usually not, since connections to games are typically initiated out. Only inbound connections should require port forwarding. You should not have to open a port to play a game, and remember the more ports you have open, the less secure your network is (in general).

Does this make you wrong?

Back on topic, so the actiontec modem has built-in router functionality? That's an interesting idea. Maybe since he already has regular router he should set up the regular router as a DMZ host in the modem-router to eliminate having to forward the port twice every time he sets up a new server of some kind.

Ok. For the sake of the conversation I'll play stupid and just pretend I know all the legitimate uses you're using it for. Of course Napster had all these legitimate uses for it too right up until the Courts saw right through the bullshit and shut them down.

Maybe to prove your point you can point Me to a couple of legitimate torrent sites that have stuff worth downloading. I can point you to six that are full of warez, porn and movies and not one with anything legitimate on it. See, I'm not stupid either.

Well, if random examples will do ...
http://www.netbsd.org/mirrors/torrents/info.html
http://www.filerush.com/
http://torrent.freesbie.org/
http://people.freebsd.org/~kensmith/5.4-torrent/
The blizzard WoW updater.

My point is that torrents are just technology. They can be used for illegalities, but they don't have to be. Thus, discussing how to set up a torrent client doesn't equal discussing illegal activities, even if that's most likely what he's going to use it for.

For a comparable case, consider if he was asking for help with an FTP client suitable for large downloads.

As for napster. Napster was a dedicated mp3 sharing program, built for that one use. Torrents are about as specialiced as HTTP.

I was having all sorts of problems with azureus a while back...i got rid of it and went with bitcomet instead - havent looked back since!

Wow. You can pull up a handful of sites with a maximum of 50 torrents on them that are legitimate and I can pull up a Google search for Torrent Search that pulls up 10's of thousands of warez, porn, movies, TV shows and music videos.

I must say, you really made your case.

Well, since the "case" as you call it was his assertion that:

and your reply was that:

I'd have to say yeah, he did prove his point. Your assertion that there was no legitimate use for torrents, thus making them automatically illegal and therefore not to be discussed here was proven to be quite wrong. There are legitimate uses for torrents (most Linux distro's are offered that way), and therefore discussing them here is ok.
You were wrong. Deal with it.
