Some are calling it a fantasy, but following a partnership with several private spaceflight companies, NASA believes it could return to the lunar surface as early as this year. The goal this time is establishing a settlement and practicing “in-situ resource utilization”: that is, “commercial lunar partners will work on how to mine and recycle resources on the moon and make them available for future mission use.” Hydrogen and oxygen from extracted water could be used to power rockets, for instance.

All these commercial endeavors would also need to integrate with NASA’s planned Lunar Gateway. This would be a space station in orbit around the moon that would serve as Grand Central Station for robotic or crewed missions to the lunar surface, or even for deep space missions. NASA hopes to open the Gateway by 2026, with the first power and propulsion elements entering orbit in 2022.

Now we can fake the Moon landing twice!! Just kidding :)

Seriously though, as a kid growing up in the 1980s I seriously thought it would be possible to live on the Moon by now. Flying cars too. Ugh.

Please send the deniers up there first with just enough O2 to see the previous landing before dying!

I have a list of people that we can send there in the test rocket... the one that won't be able to make the trip back. That should be easy to do that.

Well, there's a literal reflector on the moon that the bounce a laser off of for experiments. I'd say that's a pretty good indicator that it's never been a hoax.

there was a special on PBS last night (or Friday night, I forget) about NASA building the most powerful rocket ever, Elon Musk and Jeff's rocket accomplishments, etc. It's going to be an interesting decade

Sorry, man, I meant to quote Snowdensjacket. I'm aware of the retroreflectors on the moon but the those who say the moon landings are a hoax refute them as proof we were there.

The earth is not round. It is, in fact, an inter- and inner-dimensional point, but its value is unknown because physicists don't know whether its base belongs in the original fluctuations of quantum entanglement, the great expansion, or the moment where it finally coalesced into a planet. Of course, that's if you're looking at earth from the fourth dimension, time, which humans are also capable of perceiving. But if you look at everything in the fourth dimension you have to spend some time actually thinking, and most people get lazy and revert back to the third dimension where the earth is round, because the fourth dimension requires hard things like math, higher levels of perception and cognition, and an awareness of self and otherness.

Flat earthers aren't wrong, though. The earth is flat - it's flat in the second dimension, which is even lazier than the third dimension. So you can't call them liars, but you can say they're lazy as shit.

P.S. If you want to really mess yourself up, you can drive yourself up to the seventh dimension, where there are planes where the earth might not exist, except as a paradox created by the fact that you are thinking about it.

    P.P.S. Q: Why do zombies like inter-dimensional physics? A: BRAAAAAANES ...

P.P.P.S. Q: What do vegan zombies eat? A: GRAAAAAINS ...

P.P.P.P.S. Q: What does this have to do with NASA returning to the moon? A: NOTHING ...

That's not proof of a man landing on the moon mission. Getting pictures of the Apollo landing site would be some good evidence. But there aren't any. The Japs were supposed to get some in 2008 but just didn't fit no reason and then just dropped it. Along with a lot of evidence that it was faked. But no amount of evidence will even be taken into account by moonies.

Why were the "moon rocks" actually petrified wood? Petrified forests on the moon? I mean that's just one easy question that you guys have no answer for beyond hysterics.

Only Americans believe in the fake moon landing.

Before our next trip, we need to ID the head flat earther, train them up and send em with the next team.

But I am sure they will scream indoctrination and continue believing the NATO patrols around the arctic caps to prevent people from knowing the truth.

Japan and India's probes lacked the resolution required to get clear images of the Apollo landing sites, but NASA's LRO did in 2012-13. Those photos are readily available online. But those are fake, too, right?

I'd love to see the evidence that convinced you it's all fake. I'm sure it's nothing that hasn't been debunked/refuted a thousand times over but, please, humor me.

The moon rock/petrified wood crapola is pretty easily dismissed. No hysterics required. You somehow managed to find your way to [H] so you probably know how to use a search engine. If not and you need help with that, let us know. The community here is super friendly.

Irony - this was streaming while I read your comment. I doubt they're taking DMT, though. Maybe some spliff and a few PBRs. The singer dancing in the background might be on acid.

Kids - the video above is not relevant to this thread, but it is evidence of what your grandparents were up to when they were getting close to making your parents.

Oh gee no third party can confirm any evidence but hey nasa can! Just like I'm supposed to believe that Americans could go to the moon a whole bunch fifty years ago but then mysteriously lost all that technological know how and have to relearn it all. Cause somehow in the last fifty years technological progress has ramped up like no one could believe everywhere except in the ability to send man to the moon. Which was just totally mysteriously lost. All that technology just *poof* gone. Just like the original tapes. Weird.

There's a ton of other questions about this supposed man on the moon baloney but hey you can use Google so I'll leave it to you to find them. And yelping "durh flat earthers" isn't any kind of evidence of anything except your American pride blinding you to what the rest of the world thinks about your "men on the moon"

Not "poof" gone. Not "mysteriously lost". We just moved on from the tech that was developed for that mission, tech that required thousands of labor hours designing, fabricating, testing complex system comprised of millions of parts. Here's an article that explains what "lost" means in regards to Apollo technology.

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/quora/...e-ability-to-travel-to-the-moon/#22299bb71f48

Here's another article on resurrecting the Saturn V F-1 rocket engines that carried us to the moon.

    https://arstechnica.com/science/2013/04/how-nasa-brought-the-monstrous-f-1-moon-rocket-back-to-life/

China just landed a probe on the dark side of the moon (a first). Russia has plans for the Moon. And so do we....we're going back. The SLS is in development and will hopefully get off the ground soon. And then you'll have undeniable proof of something I already know....you and your mouthbreather conspiracy theory buddies are full of shit.

My friend, 400.000 people worked in the mission take Apollo 11 to the moon.
The fact that both people and governments are terrible at keeping lies for a significant amount of time , and multiply that by 400.000 that is enough proof for me to think moonlanding is irrefutable at this point.

And I'm not American, both the acceptance of the moonlanding and your ridiculous conspiranoia have no nation related to it.

    Edit: typos

they probably faked or touched up some of the photographs at least due to the difficulty of taking photos/filming on the moon, that all imho.

sadly once we did it and realized the russians had no plans on ever going to the moon like we thought they were the government didn't care anymore.. it's only now that china's accelerating their space program we all of a sudden care again because lets face it, the only thing Russia's good for is sending people to and from the ISS, they've been irrelevant in space for a long time.

Exciting news, will be interesting to see if the flag is still clinging on the moon. Maybe they'll bring it back and put up a new one (one that doesn't lose color from cosmic radiation).

Ooooh, that's almost as bad as saying the earth is flat. We don't hear about the Russian space program because, like many things, our media doesn't report on it. They don't report on it because we Americans have egos, and we don't like to read about stuff that interferes with our ideas of eminence. Hence, if we don't like reading about it, it doesn't sell mascara, cars or cigarettes. If it doesn't sell mascara, cars or cigarettes, our media is not interested in reporting on it.

The Russian space program is great. Even when Russia was unbearably poor they kept their space program ticking. Their specialty is human medicine and human habitation in LEO, and the work they shared with us cut years off of our deep space research. They did a lot of great work, and they're doing as much research on the ISS as we are. Nevezhestvo naroda, tovarishch.

If anyone wants to watch a fun refresher on some of the Apollo missions, check out HBO's series:

"From the Earth to the Moon" narrated by Tom Hanks.

If anything, it showed how awesome the later Apollo missions were. It was incredible how successful they were despite every mission encountering problems.

There are plenty of examples of huge conspiracies being kept secret for decades and longer. And there's no reason all the people who thought they were working on a real trip to the moon with real humans would be in on it. Hey maybe you guys actually thought you could get to the moon, ran into some real problems, and that's why you obviously faked it? Who knows?

But there was this one guy,

And I don't think he ever made it out of the atmosphere.

Topic at hand - returning to the moon. The announcement that NASA really wants to do it, and maybe even do it this year, is exciting. But I'm one of those radical people who thinks that space science is just a great excuse that we can use so we can get funding for manned exploration. I appreciate the pure science, I appreciate the robotics for what they can do, but there are scientists who would rather close down our manned program so NASA's budget can focus on the less expensive remote control research.

Bullocks. I strongly disagree. If we aren't going to lead humanity past LEO I'd rather close the whole program. There are scientists who believe that the manned space programs are draining the budget and will happily tell you they aren't interested in going to space. Fine, I'm not interested in pictures from Uranus. I'm certainly not going to hire a robot to go to Disneyland for my vacation. The rovers that have been drilling holes and taking pictures while doodling around on Mars haven't satiated my curiosity, they've increased it. I don't feel fulfilled by a bunch of postcards from the Red Planet.

To these people I say, "If humans are not going to space I'm just as happy spending your rover dollars making a fence on the Canadian border, I don't want you teasing me with how interesting the universe (or Disneyland) is if we aren't going there."

We're going to the Moon? Then we better GO to the Moon. The goal is boots on the ground.
