NAS upgrade - looking for advices

Your pool becomes quite slow on sync writes unless you add more and/or faster ZIL devices

So you'd say that - at least for now - an Intel S3700 100GB ZIL should suffice?
For up to reasonably 4-6 10GbE clients? Or should I "upgrade" to the 200GB in favor of better write IOPS and write speed?

An Intel 3700-100 can at least help to keep a reasonable write performance with a single 10 GbE Interface. If its good enough or not for your workload: you must try it.

If you really need more performance then and not only a few percent, a 200G Intel won't help.
You then need one or more ZeusRAM or accept a certain risk and disable sync.

Mmm then maybe for now 100GB may suffice.
I don't plan on adding more than a single 10GbE interface in the upcoming year so ... by that time maybe I'll upgrade to something else. ZIL devices can't be striped AFAIK so ZeusRAM would be the only ($$$) option, right?

Btw, what do you think about fiber channel such as this one as a (cheap) alternative to 10GbE? Agreed it would only be meaningful for point to point. For > 3 connections I think a 10GbE or IB switch will be needed anyway ...

You cannot stripe a ZIL but you can use more than one.
But this makes sense only if a single ZeusRAM is not large enough.

About FC
This is an option for blockbased access but I cannot comment your choice as I do not use.

And how would that increase performances (if they're not striped)?.

Has nothing to do with performance.
With multiple 10 GbE Adapters one 8GB ZeusRAM is simply not big enough to hold all log data.

But thats quite hypothetical beside the upper end of enterprise use

So a single 100GB may be big enough for multiple 10GbE simultaneous connections.
It just won't be fast enough, right?

Bough everything to setup the NAS.
Right now I'm a bit tight on budget so I bought only 2 x 960GB Sandisk Extreme Pro SSDs, 2 x WD SE 4TB. I'm still waiting for the 100GB Intel S3700 though.
Maybe I'll upgrade in the future but for now both IOPS and capacity should be enough for my VM lab.
