Hello,

I just setup a opensolaris based storage system. It has 3 drives setup in a zfs raid, and from a mac I get about 50 MB/s throughput, but on my windows machines (xp sp2, vista 32, vista 64) I am gett between 5 and 19MB/s

What can I do to resolve this? I've tried a few vista tweaks that helped it go from 12 to 19, but whats is causing these systems to be twice, almost threetimes slower?

the storage system runs opensolaris and uses CIFS to enable cross platform data transfers... so yes, the protocol being used is SMB.

You try samba? Nexenta/opensolaris b90 I'm pushing 90MB/sec to a vista box. That's with two raidz pools of 5 disks.

I recall my performance via the built-in cifs was less than stellar so I switched back to samba. Built-in cifs I used with the first release though, so things may have improved since then.

Oh, and the all-important question: What's your internal disk on the windows box, and what NIC?
