napp-it, cannot create user named "marc"

having the extension for acls
in napp-it GUI, users:
creating a user "marc", without quotes
cannot add marc to a group, message: "user lookup failed"
however, I can give this user rights to folders

in Windows:
1) marc cannot log in.
2) trying to assign rights to user "marc", but this user does not appear on the list, despite the rest of users & groups appears.

Way around: using the name "marcs" and any other one, which I need, works. But there is Marc, who wants to join.

Any idea, why user "marc" is that special? At least, one should be able to add him to a group.

In pain, I am trying FREENAS instead, but there, groups seem not to work for windos at all. So I return to Openindiana & napp-it, and I would like to keep it as my primary server.
 
I tried without problem.

Check napp-it menu user - all accounts if there is a manually created unix marc account with a lower UID number (napp-it use and creates UID > 100) to separate them from system accounts.

I just checked the unix users in OpenIndiana GUI: There is just one user marc, with "home/marc", no signs of difference to the other users, like jan. Quick check about roles: all appear the same in OpenIndiana. Does this already answer your question?

Following your question, I checked napp-it menu user - all accounts: no other user "marc" exists.
marc is listed as 108 - staff.
 
Just for completeness:

re-checked with "marc": does not add to a goup: message "name lookup failed"
but all works well with "marcs"

recreate marc: did so several times, no success.
I suspect a 3rd or hidden storage for user definitions, apart from the regular Opensolaris, unix-type users and the ones napp-it is using. May be in the CIFS server?
Reason: When using Windows (XP and 7) security tab to set rights, user names appear, which had been defined and erased previously, but never 'marc'. Those user names are neither visible in the unix-user definitions nor in the napp-it definitions. May be, there is a name synchronisation issue?
Is there any way to inspect such hidden user storage, if it exists?

There are no hidden users. The cli command logins lists them all.
I suppose something went wrong on first try to create marc.

I would go back now to a former system snap (BE). This is much faster than bug searching. (ex the post BE after napp-it setup)
 
Thanks again. No snap, sorry, or not familiar. Will go for a new installation, because root file system is too small (8GB), too much cli fiddling to enlarge. Seems, that going back to roots is the only way.

This could be a hint:
After setting up a brand-new system, starting SMB without changing to workgoup mode:
All done in napp-it
1) I created one new group
2) Could not assign the primary user (lets say leapsecond) to that group, with message "name lookup failed", i.e. the same message, which caused "marc" to fail
3) little confused here, but this was the SOLUTION
4) I changed the password of that first user leapsecond, and after this, I could assign it to any group.
5) all further users could be assigned, incl poor "marc", to any group
6) Observation: userid 102 is not used (napp-it?)
7) Now starting to move the disks to the new server

but Wndows rights to files became scrambled, marc and leapsecond still not very happy.
