N5200 vs ReadyNAS

I want to get a NAS, but I've read mixed reviews on both the Thecus N5200 and the Infrant ReadyNAS NV. Both look like good devices, but I really need swaying one way or the other :p

Does anyone have any input or an alternative recommendation?
 
Go with the Thecus, it seems to be far more robust with 4 port Gigabit switch built on and LDAP (Active Directory) integration. It seems to support a couple of other RAID options that the other one doesn't have but I doubt you will ever need them haha.
 
I was contemplating buying a NAS one day and saw how pricey they were so I built my own with some spare parts I had and used FreeNAS. Works great and I saved a couple $100 in the process.

Just an alternative you may want to think about.
 
DIY is often a better choice for enthusiasts for performance and control, but it takes more understanding and effort, and choosing between many more possibilities.

Infrant has a good web presence for support. I don't see as much from Thecus. I'd probably pick an Infrant.. No wait, who am I kidding, I'd build my own.

LOL... sound a lot like me...

If you can build a PC you can build a NAS device. I dont find one to be harder to build than the other... unless you plan on putting it in some kind of custom enclosure.
 
I am in the same boat and am deciding to go with the Thecus N5200. Its just has more features for only a few dollars more.

What won me over was the 5 bays (ReadyNAS has only 4) and the raid expansion (Can't do that with ReadyNAS). Since I'm only starting with 3 hard drives to save money (already had them) the ability to do expansion was a big factor.

Not to mention I believe you can chain multiple Thecus's witht he eSata port if you need more then 5 bays. Pretty cool devide IMHO
