Hey guys, Just got my 30 gig IPOD photo today. Just curious Im a windows user how should I go about getting started with this? Is it fairly easy? What do I do to get music from the computer to the IPOD... I know you use itunes but is there an alternative thats more windows user friendly?

Also is there a way to transfer music from one ipod to another or from my ipod to my friends computer?

I know this is asking alot but im a total n00b with these ipods. Thanks people! :)

First download the latest software from Apple and have it format your Ipod. Then you can use itunes or some other programs (I have a plugin for winamp that I like) to transfer music over. I also use a program called SharePod that lets you network the ipod and have your friends pull music off of it. Hopefully this will help get you started.

I know some people like using alternative iPod software, but personally, I stick to iTunes - I love the interface, creating playlists and all is lightning quick, I prefer it even to Winamp for my music needs now, its great. Best part about it perhaps is the add folder feature (when you add a whole folder, rather than duplicate songs like Winamp used to do for me, it checks to see what's already in your playlist, and only adds the new stuff). Enjoy that 30GB Photo though, I absolutely love mine - its even turning me into a Mac convert.

Edit: If you need any kind of help finding accessories or just questions about it, either ask here, or check out www.ipodlounge.com - perhaps the best iPod site I've come across thus far.

Thanks for the quick responses guys... Cant wait to use this thing...

So i can use winamp? How so? Format my IPOD for PC right?

As bad as this will sound, read the manual I did and it tells you how to do everything you'll prob want to know

Its not gunna tell me which other software programs i could use to upload the songs to the ipod. Its also not gunna tell me how to upload songs to other computers and other ipods either.

1) I don't know of any reason to really use anything other than iTunes for updating songs onto your iPod. For general playback I can understand, but I use iTunes exclusively for even that. Use it, learn it, love it.

2) Yes, the manual should tell you how to do both of those things, as would five minutes spent fiddling about with it, assuming you have half a brain.

3) No need for the . People are trying to help... and it couldn't hurt you to try and learn it your own a little bit, either.

Dude the guy said READ THE MANUEL. Dont get sad cuz I made a  face to him. Its called sarcasim. If you cant handle it go on some other forum. I asked some questions that were answered great by other users. No need for him to say dum un usefull stuff like that. Get my drift?

Any way, iTunes is the way to go. I was gunna go third party but iTunes is very nice and easy to use. I have some other questions though.

1. Now that I have hooked up my ipod to my computer can I hook up another ipod or will that scew with things?

2. Is ther a way to have it automatically change the bit rate on all my songs when it gets transfered to my ipod. I think i would like a standard 128, That way it will allow me to keep things orginized and save alot of space. Cause right now I have anywhere from 96kpbs all the way to 320kbps. THanks Guys
