okay, i've got a regular desktop, i think its called a full tower.

its metal and painted beige...ish..

anyway, i want to know if i can take a side panel off of my tower and take a jigsaw to it, and make a nice window, then screw some plastic glass on the back (i think its called acrylic something) and snap it back on my tower.

would that work?

Jigsaw, no, not really. Cutting through sheet metal with a jigsaw is considerably violent and not recommended. A dremel cutting saw is usually the tool of choice as they are cheap and easy to use.

And its called plexiglass. A static dust magnet and extremely easy to scratch.

While your at it, take the case apart, fully apart, remove all the components, and paint the rest of it.

Disagreed 100%. A fine-tooth jigsaw blade (usually made for cutting metal) will out-pace a dremel no questions asked. Just get a blade that has straight teeth only.

I don't know many professional modders that still use a dremel.

K, thanks man.

Since this is sort of on the topic, where could I take the side door of my RC690 to get a custom window cut? I don't have a jigsaw and would prefer a much cleaner line that a dremel can provide.

True but you gotta keep in mind, this is gonna be a ghetto project for the guy. Probably using an off the shelf wood jigsaw blade and without the proper clamps to properly secure the panel. We all know that when those things start to bounce around, your pretty much fucked.

Performance-pcs.com can cut a window for you, But it wouldnt be cheap.

Is there an alternative to Plexi that doesn't do that? As well as not breaking so easily when cutting/drilling?

I've heard of "Lexan" is it any good?

I used a dremel on my case to add a window. I wouldn't say it's the cleanest cut, but it was close enough for me (especially since I cut it out on my lap ). It was considerably easier though since my Tsunami case is rather thin aluminum, and you're talking about probably much thicker steel. If you have the means, I would probably suggest clamping everything down and using a jigsaw, with the right blade it should give you a cleaner cut. But if not, you could try a dremel, but you'll need patience, it won't be easy.

That is very, very true ;)
