I turned my pc off this morning. Came back this evening, turned pc on. Nothing happened. Switched off PSU at the back and waited for a minute, tried again, nothin. Took the lead out my monitor and tried with that, nothin.
Took the 24pin atx connector out my mobo, shorted out the green and black pins, turned on psu.... you guessed it, nothin.

What could have happened with it been switched off for it to die? Is there any chance its took out some hardware with it?

Its an Antec TruePower 2 550W by the way. Rest of spec is in sig, though im not sure that matters cus nothin was powered on..

Heres my bet.... Iv just sold my old 7800GT and an old 460W PSU. So im guessing in the dying breath of my PSU its taken out my 8800GT. Oh the joy!

I bought it off a forum or ebay i cant remember. Long time ago. So no proof of purchase or hope for RMA :(

It is the old units then that had the bad capacitors. Most likely one (or more) popped. Since you cannot RMA it, you might as well pop it open and take a look, then recommend the Corsair 520HX or 550VX.

Cou8ld it have just popped in standby mode? Not under any strain? From what i have said its definately the psu aint it. Any chance its took some hardware?

It could have. The only way to make sure is to get a new PSU and power your machine up and see if things are still running. What you don't know is what kind of long-term damage could have been done by the ripple it was most likely producing.

I opened up the PSU and cant see anything that looks out of place or odd in some way. Can anyone tell me what im looking for? Im pretty sure its the PSU now. Nothing connected and green wire short out wont power it up. You do get that little crack noise when you plug mains into it so i know its getting power. Jus wont power up. Thought this thing would last forever!
