Mysterious problem...

I got a computer that's shutting down randomly but very infrequently. Seems to shut down when I play tvshows I've downloaded on the computer. Maybe when the vid. overheats?

The vid. card is a ti4200 128meg. :dunno: really. Just fishin really; hoping one of you to tell me to go get another vid. card so I can justify dropping the cash on one. :rofl:

Possibly a problem with the CPU temp... do you have a sensor where you can check its temp?

Also, could be a power supply problem...

Are you getting any blue screens lately?

Naw, I've been monitoring the cpu temp for a while now. It's good. Power supply could be the culprit.

Anyone konw if a faulty power supply could cause your computer to run slowly? (for some odd reason that's not readily apparent?)

Run your processor at rated speed and see if the problem continues.

Good Idea Old MX but I can thwart that one it the bud also. This problem is nothing new but just something that's very irregular. I've only had my processor OC'd for a couple months now. This problem has been going on for over a year.

Maybe it is the PS, but once again I'd like to ask if that could potentially slow the computer down for any odd reason such as volt spikes or whatnot?

I doubt that it's the vid card overheating but it's easy to test. just enable overclocking in the vid drivers and underclock as far as it goes. (i think this is ~180/380mhz don't remember offhand.)

I'd say there's a problem with Windows somewhere. Did you just upgrade a video driver or a program like Real or something like that? Might be time to format and reinstall.
