While in the middle of upgrading from 2k to xp, I'm hit with this error message :

"Setup unable to initialize network components, the specific error code is 2"

I've consulted the MS knowledge base, and I cant find anything!

I hope you guys can help, I'm nearly desperate

Thanks,
Erin

if you can try disabling any network devices such as a onboard LAN or if you have any pcmcia cards inserted remove them.

are you doing a clean install or a upgrade?...remember you can always do a clean install even with an upgrade disk..it'll just ask you for the old disk at somepoint during the install

Its an upgrade with scattered data a client would like to keep.

I'll try to disable the hardware first.

Is this maybe a driver issue, or should I keep an eye out for hardware failure?

Thanks!

beat me to it, should consider this alternative.

Unless you want to keep heading out there, I would highly recommend a clean install. I have never gotten an upgrade to go right for me. There's always some little thing that just won't work right, if the upgrade works at all.

I've found it's faster and cheaper to do a clean install, then reinstall the apps. Then restore the data from backups.
