Can it be? Are community sites like MySpace and Facebook more popular than porn? According to this story, web traffic to MySpace and the others is overtaking traffic to porn sites.

In America, the proportion of site visits that are pornographic is falling and people are flocking to sites categorized “net communities and chat”—chiefly social-networking sites such as MySpace, Bebo and Facebook. Traffic to such sites is poised to overtake traffic to sex sites in America any day now (see chart).

I remember when people used to congregate to socialize...human interaction is so much better while lurking behind a computer monitor in a dark room. Remember? That used to be a place where you could rub one out in peace and quiet...

The only big difference here is that you get less Viruses from Porn sites and sex with hookers than what you find on MySpace..
 
just because they get more traffic doesnt mean people would rather go on myspace then look at porn. Hell I keep all my porn on my computer so i dont have to go onto the internet and risk more viruses. Myspace is just a fad anyways, in 3 years from now people wont think its cool, kinda like pokemon or some other crap.

Although this may soon be true for the web, however, it is not true for the internet as a whole. Much pornographic content may simply have shifted from the web to peer-to-peer file-sharing networks, for example.

I don't see how this is accurate as there are many undocumented pron sites including sites probably not envisioned by thier research.

I had a myspace profile for about 1 week. I got tired of it because every time I logged in I had twenty some odd friend request from hot chicks. I was like "sweet! some hot girls want to be my friend" but all they were was advertisements for pr0n sites.
 
I don't know... I know more than a few people who troll mySpace looking for a potential lay, whereas you know the pron sites are only going to give you pictures and video.... seems like a no brainer.

More evidence to the point: how many fake porn ads have you seen in invite messages on mySpace? Based on that, I wouldn't say that porn sites are dropping in popularity... but that they are simply moving their focus. Yes, the site itself may see less traffic, but how much of that traffic was just promotional hook traffic to begin with? Looks like mySpace is able to outsource the hook, and save on bandwidth costs for the main porno site advertised on a mySpace profile.

QFT man! Bet their research methods need to be revised, Pron is still popular (torrents at least).
 
Myspace is just as good as porn, just take a look at the wide variety of hot barely dressed teens.
 
it kinda of makes sense since myspace is for networking and for some sex, and porn is just instant gratifaction.
