My Xti Flash button only pops at certain mode

Okay, as soon as I have my camera on, say I'm indoor, I would like the flash to be on. So according to the manual, pushing that button should pop the flash.

But if I am at full auto. and all those modes below (counterclockwise), the flash button doesn't turn on. If I switch to P, Tv, Av, etc. the flash button pops up.

So why doesn't the pop button turns on at the other modes?
 
All the icons in front of the green box are automatic. The flash will only pop up when the camera thinks it needs the extra light. You cannot raise it manually in these modes.

Learn to use the manual modes. You will only benefit that way.
 
I agree with Kevlarman, dummy mode is not that great. I think you are better off leaving your camera in AV, then auto mode...I would read the manual and learn the controls. The time it takes to decide what automode is appropriate for the situation, I could already make adjustments on the fly and take the pictures.
