This is something I came up with in a CAD program.

What do you guys think about it?

Will it be too restrictive? Enough surface area? Turbulance?

Give me your opinions.
 
Doesn't look bad.

Make the pins higher(they're right over the core) + try to space the two barb holes just slightly further away (it looks like a dangerously thin piece of metal, if tolerences slip just a little, or it corrodes just a little...).
 
looks pretty good, now get a machine shop to make one and test it out and let us know how it performs!
 
make the little posts higher. more surface area, thus more cooling capacity.

id make them about 3/4 the hight of the things in the middle of the channels on the sides.
 
goodluck machining that with those little pins will be hard to move around with a table drill or table press.its easy to draw up but working with the metal is alot different. :p
 
I dont see the pins having any effect. Since they are wall to wall all the water is going to do is go for the opening anyways...either change it or there is no point to the pins in the middle IMO. Other than maybe simply being more copper to move the heat. The design of 1 wide channel may not work well though..not sure.

Also you're gonna need a wider wall around the ouside for an O-Ring and mounts:)

Looks cool though.
 
Looks good ! I would change the pins to trapazoids, 5 degree taper. Much easyer to machine and do as much of the area around the core or all over as you can. The "pins" want to have as much surface area as possible to transfer heat.
 
I think it is a good initial design. Check out a Koolance chipset for some additional ideas. If you want to be able to do repeat parts in as inexpensive manner as possible I would consider making it as a casting. I would suggest the pins all the way through the channel. Turbulence is good...the more the better :D
 
That is emachineshop...that would not be impossible to make, but i bet it would be pretty expensive. I think it would be better to make some channels or something and shot blast the inside of the channels.
 
I don't think the outer channel is doing any good, basically all heat transfer is going to occur right over the CPU core where the pins are.
Surface area is useless without proper fluid flow characteristics to utilize it. You need to maximize turbulence where it is needed, where there is the largest potential for heat transfer.
