Wasn't sure where to put this post, I think this is the proper place. My Antec 300 case has two front usb ports and an audio port. Anytime I try to insert a flash drive or even touch the front ports, the pc just shuts off.

The case is elevated with a cpu stand that has 4 caster wheels on it and off the rug. This tends to happen if i walk around the living room which has a rug/carpet and then come back to the pc later on.

Have tried touching metal first to ground myself and even wrapped the front ports in electrical tape, but the issue still occurs.

Have check the wiring, no issues there. The front usb ports do work and the rear usb ports as well.

After the pc shuts off, I turn it back on and the front ports work just fine.

I think the issue is static/grounding, but it shouldn't just turn off the pc, should it? Is there anything i can do to fix this problem.

The pc build has these parts:

Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Antec NeoECO C NeoECO 620C 620W ATX12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 ...
Western Digital WD Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
LITE-ON DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM

Thanks!

There's a short somewhere I bet. Static alone shouldn't cause that. The ports on the case sound like they are messed up.
