Gee, started a thread on ideas for subscriptions and it gets closed...why?
 
Well not to butt in, but Kyle once removed the ads for subscribers, and we complained so he put them back. :p Most of us are quite happy to support this place, because it's relatively unique as hardware boards go.

Is it REALLY that bad? Seriously, this place is a hell of a deal at $15/$5/Free. It takes a lot of money/time to run, and the ads help keep it alive. Personally I wouldn't mind a color change on the text ads, but it's nothing worth complaining about in my book.

I think the thread got closed, because yours was about the 3rd thread on the same issue.
 
Your observations and suggestions were noted. The conversation starts to stray from the original intent, it gets closed especially when it involves how the forum is funded. You get to enjoy a free forum and that doesn't include informing or soliciting solutions from the members. This ground has been covered many, many times before.

(1) Why are many of the threads locked in this forum?
After a question has been answered the thread remains open for more responses until it goes off topic. This forum is not for general conversation or any off topic posting, nor is it made to replace General Mayhem. Questions and Answers, Suggestions, or Forum Problems only. All replies are to be relevant to the topic at hand.
 
Don't forget also that Kyle doesn't like anyone who speak against ads here and on the front page and will deal if they go too far ;)

I don't mind them as long as this help keep the site and forum working in good condition as one of the best hardware sites of the net :cool:

Yes its a deal at those prices, and i am a subscriber. But...I would also pay more to have an OPTION for ad free. Thats all. I visit here everday, numerous times. I have no complaints about the site. God im trying to give away money..:D..thats all.

Also, not to be a hypocrite, but in the other thread someone mentioned that Kyle never listens to suggestions by his members. I just wanted to point out that that is absolute bullshit, so think before you speak.

Both the PPU forum and the VIA forum were user suggestions that were voted on and were initialized by Kyle. Also, before the server crashed a few weeks ago, Kyle implemented Quick Reply. He was against using Quick Reply for YEARS, but due to user demand, he set it up for us. Those are 3 things right off the top of my head, but I KNOW for a fact that there are many other things that have been implemented due to user suggestion.

So please, think before you start bashing the forums and the forum's owner.

I wonder if it is possible to get advertising that can recognize a user's location? That may be a bit too intrusive, though.
 
There is a software that will tailor itself to the individual user by ip address, but again it is expensive, database intensive and not to mention the fact that that about 90% of our members are located in the United States and Canada

Still, the newegg banner is useless for Canadians. We would rather see a NCIX banner instead (I'm a big customer there and would happily click thru those banners if they were available). A added bonus is that NCIX has stores both in Canada and US.

if he put an ncix ad i would tell every one of my friends to order through it... and ive got like 6 whove ordered lots from there now :D

On a side note, every time an ad disappears we complain about it changing the page layout lmfao

I remember when the side ad disappeared... me and oldie were so confused lmfao (dont know if Oldie remembers... you know, being old and all :D )

:rolleyes: If he felt I was bashing him he would ban me. He did once before and for 3 years.
What I said was even what YOU might think is a good idea isnt what HE wants for HIS forum.
 
yea as other people said... this forum is free.. and i don't really care about the ads.. and if you make such a big deal about it then leave and go to another forum.

hehe a suggestion.. majordomo you should put a thread saying that whoever makes a thread about this issue will result in a one week ban. Im tired of seeing these threads hehe.
 
After 7 years here, I've heard just about every suggestion, bitch, gripe, complaint and threat known to man concerning operation of this board. Most, if not all those members who complained the loudest are no longer here, but the board goes on and on. The suggestions are generally the same, just the members change...so it goes....the questions will remain. :)

....and with that, I will close this thread also ;)
