Bare with me as I just went from a water cooled skt478 Northwood to a 775 550 3.4ghz prescott. I have a TT Big Typhoon on it and I am idling around 48-50C that just seems high to me. Also the NB on my Asus P5ND2-SLI seems hot has well, is there a better cooller for this?

I am not real impressed with the way the typhoon mounts seems like there is a lot of room for error.

My room temp is about 80F, so its a little warm. Would I be better off with the big Zalman...9500<--- it somthing like that anyways.

I hope this helps I have a 775 630 3.0 overclocked to 3.3 with the 9500 and my idle is 30c with room temp of 73f and under full load goes to about 41c at same room temp. Before install made sure the surface of the 9500 HS is flat mine had a little hump in it so I got it machined down and lapped and it was worth the effort as the temps show. Good Luck

I thought that was rather high. Thanks for the reply. I am going to go get myself a Zalman cpu cooler. I will be sure and check for a true flat surface and get some wet or dry for lapping.

The 5** series do run hotter than the 6** series, but those temps are a little high. I would reseat the hs and make sure it's getting good contact.

How's your case ventilation?

Device coolers dump hot air into the case. If that hot air is not swept from the case - displaced by cooler room ambient air - it's futile to just keep buying more efficient coolers.

Hope this helps!
