I'm using:
MSI 875P Neo-LSR mobo
P4 3.0 (478) Prescott @ 3.6ghz on stock Intel cooler
2GB of Samsung Value RAM Its DDR400 but I'm running it at 333mhz for OC
BFG 6800GT OC locked at 66/33 on the AGP/PCI bus

Now here is the thing At 1.55 volts (stock) it wouldn't run stable at 3.6 (240x15) so I bumped it up to 1.65 and it still after 2 hours Prime95 failed. So I was wondering if any higher would be okay? The CPU hasnt gone over 68* Celsius and ambient temp is usually 36*-40*. These chips have been pushed past 75* Celsius (some even running 90* stock) so could I push to 1.7 without damaging anything?

Any other suggestions to get it stable at 3.6? This thing seems to be a powerhouse. Cant wait to see it under a new HSF in a few months (or whenever I cant stand to not push it more).

p.s Intel says the max voltage is 1.55 but thats what it was running stock lol...so ya just thought I'd throw that in there.

68C is pushing the limits of the cpu, i would stop at 60C if it were me.
you are also at the limits of the voltage 1.65 it really high for air cooling, i only went to 1.63 on my pressy and it was under water.

go buy that new HSF now

There are Prescotts running stock at 60* at idle! Anyway I downgraded to 1.55 voltage and 3.5ghz for now...Watercooling is in the plans...but I wish someone had a list of what I need to buy. I'm horrible at selecting parts for stuff like that, no matter how much I read about it. I started the other day, but choices and each person having a different opinion makes it hard.

ditto

If you want Watercooling to go with your system.

Buy a swiftech Apex kit, thats all you will need. It will not cover your GPU though, so if you want to cool the GPU as well, consider buying a GPU block.

On the other hand, I can't get my Intel 3.2 Northwood to pass prime 95 stable at any clockspeed greater then 3.67, i'm told the Socket 478's just weren't that great of overclockers =\

my 2.4C at 3.3 would disagree :)

As would my 2.4C at 3.4. ;)

Also, isn't 1.7v really high with a Prescott? I thought those things default at 1.4v. If so than 1.65v is 17% overvolt and 1.7v is 21%. I get scared when I overvolt past 10%.

Ya or my P4 2.0 Northwood running at 2.8ghz... =P Or both of my P4 3.0 Prescotts running at 3.5ghz stable...this one (D0) cant get over 3.5 stable, but the other is an E0 revision and can sit stable at 3.75ghz but I wanted to run the RAM at DDR400 so I clocked it down to 3.5. They are excellent overclockers. I have a 1.6 that was running 2.6ghz on air, but my new boards dont support it for some reason. All are 478s.

the E0 is a good one, you may even be able to get it higher, but man please get better hsfs, those temps are scary

I got a Celeron 320(2.4) E0 running at 3.8, I'm using a Zalman 7700 with the fan speed at ~1000rpm. I'm trying to get some money for watercooling, if I get that then I'm going higher. As you can see I'm not really overvolting yet.

Wow nice...I think I've got a 2.4 Celeron laying around...wonder how far I could push it...

Several people keep saying that the temps are too high, but if you research Prescotts mine is running lower than the average non-OC Prescott, and I'm OCed. I dunno. I'll grab a watercooling kit and a new case on the 15th.

man where are you getting your information from. 70C on a prescott is damn HOT mine ran at ~40 idle and ~53 full load at that was with 1.6 volts and a Big Typhoon cooling it.
