I am running: AMD 1090t black edition CPU OC to 3.7 GHZ, 650 watt ultra lsp pro power supply, ASUS m4a89GTD Pro/USB3 Mother Board, 8 gigs ram, Corsair H50 Cpu cooler Liquid, Windows 7 64 bit with a 24 inch 1080p LED monitor. Currently have a single geforce GTX 460 GPU.

I dont play many big online games, my problem is witcher 2 I have to run on medium setting with a couple options bumped up. And Im not happy with that. What card would you guys suggest upgrading to? Im no computer guru by any means so please take it easy on me. I would like to stay around 400 bucks

A single GTX 570 or Radeon HD 6950 would be perfectly fine, they're around $300, or $250ish if you can find an open box/recertified.

I agree. Either one is fine. Furthermore, I don't know if you prefer a certain manufacturer, but if you're getting a 6950, get a Sapphire and get a reference one if you can so you could flash the bios sometime in the future, if need be. I believe newer revisions no longer have the dual bios switch.

Awesome thanks for the quick help, I've only run Nvidia cards so far, but im not prejudice to amd/ati cards cards. I was thinking an SLI setup but just researched my MB and found out it doesnt support SLI. oh well, dont wanna open a HUGE can of worms but which brand of card would yall go with?

It really depends, I'm an AMD guy and I just got two GTX 570's for the rig I'm going to build because I got them for $250 open box. I would go with the 6950 if I were you, a brand new one is only $245 from sapphire, and this card should be plenty for you. It can play all games at 1080p with playable FPS and all of the settings turned up, and you'll save money compared to a 570.

Also, if you find an open box one, you can save even more :p

EDIT: Get the 1GB version, by the way, it will save you money, you won't need 2GB of Vram with one monitor at 1080p.

I just put in a second 6870 and the performance is amazing. You can pick up two of these for around $350 and your board supports crossfire, so you would be good to go.

I think a single 6950 would suit him better than cfx 6870's tbh, cheaper, and more than enough performance for what he needs, if he needs more performance down the line he can cfx another 6950 and be good to go.

Being as those are the most powerful and cost/performance ratio are fair. Other than that the 6870s are amazing price/performance

Since OP said he was looking at SLI initially, a great crossfire setup should fit the bill and last a few years.

not with that power supply he's not gonna crossfire 2 6950's...........especially with a overclocked 6 core cpu and a single 38 amp 12v rail.

I would not run more than 2 6870's with that psu.

With the Ultra 650, 2 6870's would be the max I would be comfortable with as well.

Thanks to everyone for all the help. Im gonna go with the 6950 maybe 6970 for sure just for the fact that later on I can upgrade my PSU and go crossfire. Funny I had my computer built and wasn't planning on Gaming, so I went cheap on the GPU. I've since sold my PS3 and 360 because they were collecting dust after I played crysis 2 on PC I was hooked LOL

one more question, what would I have to upgrade my PSU to in order to run the radeon 6990? its a lingering thought!!

The 6970's are amazing I ran one in my HTPC and any game ran smooth as butter maxed out. Good luck with your card =P

The 6970 makes games run a treat. I've got a 6950 1gb and it makes my games run quite smooth (I'm playing 1600x1200- so didn't need the extra headroom). I'm a long time PC gamer, but I tried console gaming last generation. It's just not the same. Back to the PC now.
