Howdy peeps,

New to the forum so thought my rig (gaming/general) specs up for comment, suggestion, praise, insult etc

Any comments are welcome as im newer than most to this....

Cheers,

P4 3.6 Prescott
Asus P5GD1-LA Mobo
2x160GB Samsung HD's
1GB Infineon DDR RAM
Tagan 420w PSU
DVD+RW, DVD-ROM
Radeon X850XT PE

Does the sheer weight of that Video Card make it lean? I am putting together my new build this afternoon and I got that card, and I am wondering if it is going to bend like so many I see on this site. I think I will build some sort of bracket for it, but just wondering outloud right now.

Hehe...its a big sucker definetly, i put it up against my old X600 Pro for size comparison and could feel the X600 going 'limp' with embarassment... :D

Seem ok so far on the bending front, though it is resting on my wireless card at the mo which is below........

Word of warning...dont touch the L shaped heat sink bracket on the back of the card after some heavy gaming.....it melts skin for fun!!!!

That's one nice rig. The only thing I'm not really fond of is the memory (RAM), other than that I think it's a really nice PC.

P.S. I also own an X850 XT video card, and I don't know what you guys are talking about being very heavy? It really isn't that heavy at all. I even have an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 5 (Rev. 2) VGA Cooler installed on it (making it heavier) and it work perfectly, without giving the slightest hint of bending.

Did you consider going AMD Route?

I would have went AMD to give better gaming performance. Also, I would have gotten some Corsair RAM.

Since Intel is better than AMD on pretty much everything other than gaming, maybe he's interested in better performance on mulitasking, encoding, decoding, video editing in general, etc, while still getting very good performance in gaming.

Corsair, OCZ, they are both KICKASS brands in the memory business. Either would be great.

I did consider it but i went with this setup because of the price i got. I added the Tagan and X850 afterwards though to try and maximise its potential. Those 2 bits cost almost half what the rest did when i bought it about 5 months ago....

The Infineon RAM is abit crappy...but it can always be upgrade. And its running fine at the mo so......

What type of cooling? If you can overclock that past 4Ghz that's going to be one HELL of a system!

Im a total nOOb when it comes to overclocking so im taking my time learning as much as possible before trying anything. Its got stock fan and heatsink plus 2* 80mm fans plus its open all the time coz the X850 can be used to fry breakfast on it when its taken a hammering :p

....past 4ghz eh  i like the sound of that if it can be done

OK........now for the real clincher!!!

The system (other than the Tagan PSU and the X850XT PE) is a stock HP T690

Gonna love seeing the comments change about this now.

Let the OEM system bashing commence :)

If the specs are still true (ASUS mobo and all), then it's still cool. But I recommend you get a new case with better air circulation.

haha! well in that case, unless you want to mod the motherboard, you aren't getting that thing over 3.6ghz. but its still very nice specs.

Yeah its true, as I said the only thing ive changed are the Graphics card and PSU (it came with an X600 and a 300w  PSU originally. The Mobo is ASUS but its a chopped down mini ATX style board made specifically for HP (got 1xPCI-Express slot and 3x PCI) but at the mo its got everything i need in it.

I figured I had to start somewhere and rather than try and build my own with limited knowledge i got this at a fairly good price and can learn from this setup and hopefully go for a custom build next time.....rather than going for it straight off and screwing it up :p

I see the problems some people have with of the shelf stuff i.e Stupidly high price, budget parts, zero chance for upgrade/modification, but ive had not had a problem so far....

oh and your right, the case does need changing, having to run it open at the mo to keep it nice and cool ;)
