My rant against XFX :)

Figured I'd spread my crap experience with XFX (vid card company) with everyone. I try to check back here whenever I get time between being involved at school so my responses may be slow.

Last September I purchased a FX5600 card from XFX, the card worked perfectly fine till around mid August of this year. Because the card had a two year warranty I sent it back to them for replacement. As their site states and how all warranties work, I payed $21.50 to ship it to them in City Of Industry, CA. I was perfectly fine with paying this charge HOWEVER, when I got the card back the UPS guy asked me for $69.80! Nowhere is it stated on their site that the user must pay a rediculous fee upon receiving the card back. This is obviously not right and is a huge charge I am not willing to pay. So late August I called XFX and spoke to Ryan who is supposidly the head guy in RMA (so how can he also be the PR guy who's email XFX sent me??, seems he does a lot around there...)
At the time, Ryan was unable to do anything and needed to speak to the manager who was returning from holidays the next day. I was told that I would receive a call within 3 days. I have YET to receive this call back from them more than a MONTH after I was told this! After that, I called about once a week and since nobody ever answers the phones around there I asked to be called back and left my name and number. No call. It is now up to the point more than a month later where I am calling daily and leaving a message to be called back and not ONCE have I gotten a call from them. Just last week I actually got a human person who answered at the support desk! They said Ryan was out at the moment and would have him call back immediately when he was in. Yet again, do you think I've heard from him?

I am now spreading the word not to deal with XFX. Please take my word for it. Although the boxes are flashy for their cards, it just covers up for the crap that's inside the box. I've read around and almost everyone who's owned a card from them has had to RMA it at one time or another. If do you buy a card from them, keep in mind, if it breaks down it will be cheaper on your part to just buy a completely new card ahead of go through the huge amount of money that you will get charged for RMA. And did I mention, it takes around a month average for my emails to get replied to from support, this is another con about XFX.
In one week if I haven't heard from them I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs against XFX and their mis-treatment of customers.

I hope my first hand experience can give you an insight into this company. Even if they were to send me $50 and an apology for all this bull I would leave them alone and stop doing negative marketing for them. Even if a product is good, the name and support can be a downer...

thought this was worth sharing, spread the word!

"Dont buy a XFX brand even though though have pretty boxes"...CHECK. I hate bad customer services so I know how you feel, you can sell me shit and pass it off as cake but if the customer service is good I will be back if not I wont. :p

Ask ryan if there are any job openings for you. Sounds like xfx's experiencing growning pains.

XFX is a small company thats getting more popular selling nVidia cards every year. A whole bunch of the machines at my college are running XFX video cards in them. I have an XFX 6800GT myself and i know countless others with XFX cards.

XFX was having problems with their customer support line and tech support e-mail. I dont know if they ever got it rectified completely but before i ordered my XFX 6800GT i contacted them on two occassions asking questions about the card and both times i got back quick responses within 24 hours.

I havn't had to ever RMA a card with them though so i can't speak from that perspective.

They still have problems with it, the only way their getting more popular is cause people judge a book by it's cover, in this case the X shaped box. You're lucky that you got a response when you contacted them.

Yesterday for the hell of it cause I was pissed I left ... many ... messages on their voicemail in RMA cause no one was in. Ryan got back to me after that :) They are going to pay me the money back and it took so long cause they had to get the info from UPS. Now, when I first called two months ago I was told I would get a response within 2 days. Even if they had to get this info it would be common respect to call us back and say that it may take a while. Instead I've spent over $20 in phone charges just to get a hold of them and ask for a call back, and they still didn't. Why is it that I have to fill up their voicemail slots to get a simple response?

..... anyway, they said they'd issue the cheque next week, if it ever shows up in my mailbox is a whole other story...

More like he figured you would give up and go away.

Hmm......I'll be avoiding them. Thank for the heads up.

I'll agree - XFX cards suck.

Had a 5900XT I bought from them a while back, sold it to a guy this summer, and he has just contacted me to tell me it hasn't been working this entire time - he's been trying various mobos and PSUs!

Not entirely sure I believe him, but he's got plenty of posts and feedback, so I don't really have any choice but to take it back. Although it was working fine when I sent it, I'm presuming it's really broken now, so there is $160 down the tubes.

Don't know *specifically* that it's XFX's fault, but I can't help but feel pissed at them somewhat as now all my funds I was planning on for a graphics card upgrade have just evaporated. And since my FX5600 is for sale on eBay, looks like I'll have to pick up an FX5200 somewhere.

Had an XFX 6800nu I also sold - thermal diode on it isn't working at all, it seems, so the card is always running in 'throttled' 3d mode (it always reads 153C). Ended up having to eat a $100 to sell of that card. (Yes, that's the card in my sig - thermal diode works fine with a waterblock on it, but not at all with stock cooling. Nice.)

*sigh*

Nothing but bad experience after bad experience with XFX. Totally crap cards, avoid at all cost!
