My ram cooler doesn't work? Reasons?

I have the OCZ ram cooler, and I plugged it into the CPU fan header. I figured it was closest and would look the cleanest. The LED's work, but the fans are not spinning...

Does it matter which pins are touching? You know how the CPU header has 4 pins, but every other header has 3 pins?

Its on a 780i btw.

The fan plug should be keyed so it should only go in one way. You probably have to turn off smart fan control (or whatever its called in your BIOS) for the CPU fan so it will run at full speed without control.

I think Tech is on the right track. You obviously have power but it's not telling it to run. If you have smartfan on and a good CPU cooler, it's not going to kick on your fan. Turn cpu fan to manual and then reboot, if the ram fan doesn't come on, make sure it's plugged in right or switch it around.

BTW, I'd highly recommend you use an aux/cha fan controller. Why would you unplug your CPU fan?

Why are you using the CPU fan connector? If you must, you should set the BIOS to ensure the fan spins all the time and not based on CPU temps.

You should use the SYS fan connector - on some MBs, that's right next to the memory connectors.

I am using the CPU one because its the only one close to the ram cooler, and I have all my other fans (CPU one included) running on the other headers. I did it to make it all look clean. In the bios I have it all set to manual 100%, but it still doesn't spin.

The header is keyed like you said, and the 4 pin header is keyed so that a 3 pin connector will fit only on a certain 3 pins, which is where its connected.

You should test it plugged into an auxiliary header just to make sure it works altogether.

If there's an option for PWM fan mode in the bios then change it to voltage or off or whatever. Should be in the same place as the smart fan control as partof that setting.

And yeah, as the other guy said, test it in another header to make sure it works at all.

check to make sure you don't have any of the fan wires impinging on the fan blades. I've got the same cooler and before I played around with it one fan wasn't spinning; ended up being one of the fan power lines was sticking into the blades path just enough to keep them from spinning.
