Well, I finally got raid setup.

2x Seagate 320GB 16MB Cache SATAII hdd's
and 1x Seagate 320GB 16MB Cache SATAII HDD for backup/storage

Here are my results with storage drive:

Is this on the DS3 in your sig? If so, are you using the Gigabyte sata ports or the ICH8 ones? Either way, I'm gonna go out on a limp and say yes, something is wrong. The GB chipset is on pci-e x1, which is ~200 MB/s, and the ICH8 ports are on the southbridge, which should mean they have as much bandwidth as they want. It looks like you're capped by the PCI bus somewhere. Try the other set of ports.

I am using the DS3.

And my motherboard doesn't allow me to use raid with the default sata ports I have to use the special Gigabyte RAID ports (purple) in order to run raid.

On another forum they said that I need to change my stripe size from 128k (what it's at now) to 16k. Is that correct?
 
Ah, right, the ICH8 isn't the ICH8R :p

I don't think changing will make much difference. But feel free to try it; it can't hurt anything other than possibly making you install the OS again - it is installed on the raid 0 array, no?

Yes XP is installed on the RAID-0 array.
 
Well, I think it's time to mark the Gigabyte sata as "poorly implemented" and live with it. ~112 MB/s looks like that's all you get. I think you could probably hit 170 with a good chipset, and there's room for that in x1, but apparently they decided bridging to pci would be good. Oh well.

 
I had this experience as well with my DS3. I got a P5W DH with the Intel Matrix and my real world speed increased bigtime. The benchies reflected the improvement as well. JMicron is crap indeed.
 
Nope. Don't overclock your pci express bus in hopes of getting better speeds out of it - my guess is there's a pci-e to pci bridge back there, with the sata controller attached to it. Overclocking the pci-e bus will just make the thing disappear, not work faster.

These guys are at it again... I have a Gigabyte nForce3 MB which I got for nice integrated nVIDIA networking, to find that Gigabyte connected that to a 10/100 PHY and added a Marvell PCI GbE NIC. Looks like they're still doing dumb things at the design level...
