My pump shorted out. Did I do something wrong?

Here's my system in the order it's connected:
Innovatek HPPS Plus 12V pump
Inno iCool Rev4 CPU block
Inno Cool-o-matic Rev3 Chipset block
Inno cool-o-matic rev2 GPU block
Inno 12V pump (original design)
BIP radiator
AquaComputer aquabox reservior

I had both pumps connected to an old AT style power supply for easy on/off. I was having trouble bleeding the loop since that aquabox isn't designed with a fillport so I probably turned the pumps on and off a dozen times or so. There were lots of air bubbles traveling through the loop but I didn't think the pumps were starved for water long enough to do any permanent damage. I eventually got the loop blead and everything looked to be running good. I was at the point to leave the system run for 24hr for a leak test when the PS suddenly turned off. After some investigation, I found that the Inno 12V pump (original design) had shorted out. :mad: No, it wasn't because water got on it either.

Anyway, I've used that pump as the only one for ~2.5 years now so I'm wondering if I killed the pump or if it died of natural causes. The system looked like it was working great with the two pumps in series but I don't want to do that again if it means killing another pump. Is the pump design not made for this application? The electronic board for the pump used a small transformer instead of the newer ones that just use transistors. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

AquaComputer had the nerve to make a reservoir without a fillport on it? That's the whole fscking point of s res!
 
I've been using an Innovatek HPPS since 2003 and haven't had any issues, but I always use a filltank to make bleeding easy.

I also stop and start it many times when filling to bleed the air and have not had any issues. I have also spilled water on it before and it didn't fry.

The extra circuits are primarily for adding 12v and beefing the pump up a bit so it has more head pressure. They also contain the controls to use the 2 different extra modes: silent and power.

I know it's the same thing with the Aquatubes unless you were to tip the case on its back end and take the lid off. Maybe that's what you're supposed to do on this one? Adding a fillport could be another option.


You might be able to get a replacement thru Innovatek as long as you used their fluids (*wink* *wink*)
