My current rig is in my sig below. For about a year I was running it @ 3200+ XP speeds with PC3200 RAM. Then all of a sudden I went unstable and things went down hill from there. I had to back off to 2500+ and 400MHz DDR, then 2500+ and 333MHz DDR. Then I got a bad stick of RAM and replaced it. Harddrive corruption was bad but it was tolerable (ran fine for the most part). Then the latest WoW patch killed it. Did a complete wipe on XP. Now the first real time after boot I either get a bad checksum on a DLL or just black screen after BIOS check.
So what is broken...I don't have a clue.
My guess is my wife's $500 limit she put on me last year was just too harsh and my choice of subpar components (Aspire powersupply) and desire to OC (2500+ to 3200+) was a bad a choice. I've run memtest, a CPU test, and a HDD tests for about 6 hours each and no issues which pisses me off
So i'm in the lets start with a clean slate and increase the budget (especially since I run the books now
)
The primary function of this PC is to play WoW and do homework. I'll be moving to a Dell 2005 LCD near christmas.
1. Is a 3700+ SD worth the $70 more than the 3500+ Venice? Based upon Anand's review...CPU does matter in WoW
2. Will the next gen of ATI/nVidia cards still support AGP or is it all PCIe from now on. I would prefer to keep my 6600GT and then splurge later..but if I have to buy now...i'll buy something now.
I'll ask more questios later..but the first two need to be answered.
