My PC is beeping, no boot either.

First off, it boots immediately when I flick the PSU switch on the back rather than hitting the switch on the front...

Something in my case is beeping. I can't tell if it's the motherboard or something from one of the bays.

It's one long beep with 2 second or so pauses (continuous). I checked up the beep definitions for the phoenix bios and it says it may be a DRAM problem. My ram is brand spankin new (Corsair XMS series) and it's little LED's light up as usual and it's in there fine. The video card also seems to be fine and it has adequate power as it's fan turns on and the led's on it light up.

None of this started happening until I installed a 3" Fan controller and a new Thermaltake heatsink and fan (silent tower).

My components:

MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum Skt 939 motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 skt 939 processor
1024 MB Ram Corsair XMS Series 184 pin DDR400
ATI Radeon X800 XT GPU
Sound Blaster Audigy ZS 2 Platinum

In the bays:
DVD+/- RW 16x
Floppy and Media reader combo
The sound panel from the sound card
A fan controller

That's just to include the specifics. I've been tinkering with this thing all night and I'm going insane.

I took everything out including the motherboard (disconnected absolutely everything) and put it all back together. Same thing. Just powers on, everything turns on, fans, harddrives, my lil neon tubes, but one long heartbreaking beep with no video. Silent for a few more seconds then beeps again, and again, and again. It's like I paid a hundred bucks for this to happen (the price of the new heatsink, the fan controller, and the dvi cable) and now I can't find one thing that could possibly be wrong. I just don't get it, it was fine before the new heatsink fan and fan controller and now it's just retarded.

I shorted pins 2-3 as the motherboard manual describes to clear the CMOS. I let it sit for about 3 minutes. I switched it back to pins 1-2 and powered on. Same deal.

It's hard not to give up at this point. I just have no idea what's wrong. I'm so pissed because I got Half Life 2 today AND my new heatsink/fan came from FedEx. I was so happy and I said to myself "I'm gonna give my PC the gift of better cooling and play HL2 aaaallll night." And now I'm cursing and pissed and so dissappointed in myself that I can't fix this.

I really hate to bug the forums, I just like to search or just figure it out on my own, however that failure has brought me here. But it looks like my precious build will need to be taken to a specialist for something that I know is so small and stupid that I'm just not catching.

And I just realized world of warcraft is out extremely soon. ::holds queezy stomache::

It's only my first build so maybe I got lucky when putting it together the first time. What are all the possible things that can be wrong?
 
You didn't say what kind of power supply, but I'd disconnect some of the non-essential items, like the pretty lights, and see if it can boot up. You may not have enough juice going to the MOBO, especially for RAM with pretty lights - it follows that they need more volts because lighting up those LEDS isn't free. Try running only the essentials - MOBO, video, RAM, hard drive, and see if it powers up. If it does, then you need a better power supply. If not, then you my guess is static electricity (Silent but definitely deadly) killed something.
 
Take your ram out, put it back in,making sure to get it in straight. Then reset your CMOS. Also check the four pin power connector(the one I keep forgetting about).
 
Try troubleshooting with the power wires. As stated, make sure your power supply has enough power for everything.
Are your fans spinning? Make sure no wires are caught between the fan blades too. That has happened and will cause the machine to overheat.
Also, make sure the wires are ran properly to the fan controler. Disconnect it too and see if the machine starts up again.

400W Rosewill power supply. Worked fine before.

I have everything disconnected. The motherboard is outside of the case with th GPU, CPU, and RAM. I am resetting the cmos, but even in this situation it's doing the same thing. I can't get a hold of MSI (busy, then an answering machine, left message) and I guess I'm basically out a couple grand. :rolleyes:
 
should it boot just with the flick of the power supply switch? Or should it not turn on until I press the front switch button? I can turn it off with the front switch, but if the psu switch is turned on, bam it boots up immediately.

Have you tried only using 1 stick of ram and tried different slots? My MSI Neo2 wouldn't post when i first got it and turned it on (although it didn't beep) with 2 sticks of ram in dual channel. I used only 1 stick (or 2 sticks in single channel) to get it to post then changed some memory settings (set it to 2.5,3,3,10 with 2T, set memory volts to 2.85) and it posted fine after that which was before i got my ddr booster

well it shouldn't... it might be that the power switch is defective.. try connecting the reset button since they work the same..
