MY P4 socket 478 3.0ghz processor HELP

I have a precott socket 478 3.0 ghz processor. I recently remounted the heatsink with AS5(my temps went up by 2 degrees!!).Then i turned on my pc and it said. "CPU UNUSABLE" i restarted my system and same thing. I reinstalled windows and now it doesnt say that. But now when i turn on my pc after it says "verifying DMI Pool Data....." it stay on that for alot longer then usual and on windows the bar thing that goes across, goes across 2 more times then before. Any ideas??? Processor problem?? :( :(

When it said, "CPU unworkable" did it also say F1 to continue, del to enter setup? If so, which did you do?

I'm guessing you unplugged the comp and killed the power to put the AS5 on. Bios probably just reset and put your custom settings back to default. If that's the case go back into your BIOS and check everything is back to normal. Especially the mem divider if you were running one. If that's not the case, i don't know.

I always get the CPU unworkable anytime i unplug my comp and then i have to go back in and reset a few things.

edit: saw that you have pc4400 so you wouldn't be running a divider. Check the FSB setting though.
 
AS far as the temp going up 2 degrees. That really shouldn't happen. YOu probably have an air bubble or just a bad application. In which case it wouldn't be a bad idea to take the HS off and just start the whole thing over again.
 
Im not really worried bout temps as im gettin a new hsf but i really am worried about my cpu. Any ideas why its slowing down? I think a little bit of the ArtiClean i was using went on the bottom of the cpu but im not sure. COuld that be the case??

No. That's what made me think that your OC isn't being applied. If that's not the case, there's no logical explanation i could think of.

yes, spilling shit on your processor is not good for it.
 
If your CPU is running too hot, it may be throttling itself down (thus, making things seem slow). What are your CPU temps in the BIOS? (let your system stay on for a little while to warm up)

Getting a little bit of cleaner on the bottom of the CPU probably wouldn't hurt anything as long as you let it dry before putting it back in your system.

Also, make sure to reset your CMOS. It seems like somthing may have gotten wacky in the BIOS.
