It has become apparent to me that my poor old Geforce 4 4600 may not be cutting it these days. It still does ok, I can still play doom3, HL2, splinter cell:CT without alot of slow down. It would be nice to be able to up the detail a bit though. However, I unfortunatley dont have much money to spend on such upgrades.

Is there such an AGP card that is around $100, that would offer much of a performance increase?

1 gig 2700 ddr
geforce 4 4600
7200 rpm hd
 
you best be would probably be to save up like $80-100 more and get a 6600GT
 
you can get the 6600gt off pricewatch.com for 158 after shipping.

or you can get the regular 6600 for 135.

the GT is a MUCH stronger card than the regular 6600.
 
I should be in on this thread too. My 9600 Pro broke, a refurbished Sapphire from newegg, and was never reliable to begin with. But there's a slew of 9600 Pro's on newegg now for under $100. I was thinking about getting another one. But how long do you think this card is going to last? I got a pretty good setup at the moment: Athlon64 3000+ with 1GB RAM, but it's sock754 and AGP. I just want my next card (hopefully sub-$100) to take me until my next upgrade to the 939/PCIe platforms, which will be next summer.
