I jumped on the $269 (after rebate) deal for the 120 GB Solid 2 SSD. I received the drive today and had a chance to get everything configured tonight. I have been debating getting the 120GB Vertex, but I am very happy with the Solid 2's performance, especially at the price I paid.

Here are some benchmarks I ran:

System info stuff:
Core i7 920 @ 3.5GHz
EVGA X58 SLI LE motherboard
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
AHCI mode using the default drivers.

Those are great numbers IMHO, especially considering the price you paid. I paid $~350 for the Crucial 128GB SSD and it's lower by about 20-30% across the board. Not that I think I notice the difference for what I do with it, but I do envy the price you paid if nothing else!

You're going to make early adopters upset with those eye-opening numbers. :) NAND and controllers have really come a long way in the last several months. I wouldn't be surprised if you get a slight improvement in reads on an SATA3 controller. The 120GB Solid 2 also seems like a better choice than the 60GB. With only half the channels it seems to really suffer compared to the Vertex or Agility, based on preliminary benches on the OCZ forum.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not even that early an adopter and I'm a little upset.

those are some nice numbers
makes me want to pick one up.... good thing they are out of stock atm

Well, hopefully those numbers help some people make purchasing decision. I've been going back and forth for quite awhile between a 120GB Vertex or a 160GB X25-M...but just could never get over pulling the trigger at the prices they wanted. I was worried that this Solid 2 series would be slow, but fortunately it's not!

Thanks for the numbers, mine should be here within the hour and your numbers save me the time of dropping this in my desktop rig to bench it. It's going in my i5 laptop. Looks good, got in on the same deal.

I decided to buy one too, but haven't bothered to bench it much less open it. Eventually it's going on an Athlon II X2 240 system with Windows 7.

Just bought a Intel X25-M 80GB this weekend. Really liking the OS speed :)

Here are my results from benchmark.
Writes are a bit slower, but still faster than my VelociRaptor. Reads are impressive.
