My first POST :)

Thanks to the introduction of PCI-e, dual core CPUs and Next generation graphic cards.

Mortals like me can afford a high performance rig at ridiculous low prices.

I just got an Athlon64 3000+ (new), a MSI k8n neo2 platinum (OEM) and a geforce 6800GT (used).

For a grand total of $433.00 dlls.

Building it just now.

That's great that folks can still get a good solid machine for just over $400... well it'll need memory... details details :)

^^
and a PSU, a harddrive, couple other things but still a good deal :D

From my previous rig

120 WD ATA
2x 512MB DDR 400
20" Sony Multiscan 20SEII
Lite-on SOHW 812 DVD burner

I'm getting a 400w PS since I only got a 350w. Maybe a new case, I really don't care about looks.

I'm upgrading from
Athlon XP 3000+
Geforce FX 5900
ABIT AN7
Lite-on SOHW 812 DVD burner
2x 512 DDR 400 Shikatronics
20" Sony Multiscan 20SEII

I'm gonna miss soundstorm.

That's awesome, this is the rig I keep in my guide for my business as a suggestions for budgets.

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Socket 939 - $146 Link
Motherboard: Chaintech VNF4 Socket 939 - $80 Link
Memory: Corsair ValueSelect 512MB PC3200 - $45 Link
Video Card: AOpen GF6600 128MB - $103 Link
Sound Card: Onboard
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 160GB - $83 Link
Optical Drive: NEC DVD Burner - $39 Link
Total: $496

This is a complete rig though, and as you can see everything is brand new. I still think its a great rig and allows a ton of upgrade room.
