k, buying all this stuff, plus got some old stuff. using it all to build my new machine. tell me what you like/dislike before I go ahead with the purchase

Floppy Drive
Necesssary Cables
Power Supply (can't find the wattage anywhere, including on the unit itself)

Other Parts I have:
120 GB 7200rpm (for my movies :p)
Geforce 4 4600fx 128mb DDR
Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer 5.1
 
This is my personal opinion.... and it obviously depends on what you use your computer for.... but i would go with at LEAST 1gb of RAM.

Everything thing else looks good enough.
 
You don't need more than 1GB of RAM. 512MB is fine for right now - if you feel like you need more, you can always add it later.
 
yea totally. I don't have that cash right now though. Keep in mind I'm trying to leave a good amount of leeway for future upgrades. 512 more ram would be first on that list of upgrades. I'm also worried about the CPU. I think that the 2.0ghz may be the first thing I'm forced to swap out :(

also the video card! and if I want the new 6800 I'm gonna need that required 450 watt power supply (doh!)
 
depends on what your using your computer for.

If all you do is a little internet and e-mail, word processing, and simple games.... then you should be fine.

If the computer is for the latest games at 1600x1200 with AF and the such..... yea... it might need to be upgraded. Although that geforce 4 TI 4600 should last you a while!!! those thigns were awsome.

So, what do you plan on using your computer for?
 
hardcore gaming... nuff said. My system right now is a p4 1.3, 386mb sdram, with that geforce and I can barely run farcry. I wanted only to upgrade the ram, but the motherboard wont support anymore and it doesn't support ddr, so then I needed new ram and a motherboard. but, the crappy sony vaio smurf cases can't really hold shit of a motherboard, so I needed a new case. and then in the end I was buying all this new shit I figured why not throw in a new cpu too...
 
Makes perfect sense. I know the feeling, of trying to upgrade a dead horse.... you know ^_^. My 4 year old dell can't take any other power supply, so i could'nt get a good graphic card (only 200w PSU).

What im really supprised at though, is that your computer can only take 386mb of ram..... must be 3x128.............. hm.

That's a P4 @1.3 ......... hm,,,, i must have been lucky that my PIII @ 0.8ghz could hold 3x256 ............. 786mb of ram.

actually it can hold 512mb of PC800 SDRAM but I can't simply buy another 128mb cause PC800 ram you MUST buy in pairs :mad: so right now I got 2x64mb and 2x128. buying another 2x128 would be a damn waste of money and time.
