Asus P4C800 E - Deluxe
P4 3.0 northwood at 3.6 Ghz
Corsair PC4000 XMS PRO - 1 gig 2.5, 3, 3, 6
MSI 5900XT
2 36gig WD Raptor (RAID 0)

Im getting 33C at idle and 56C underload indicated on Asus PC Probe. The front side bus is 240 mhz of course with this overclock. My memory timings are actually tighter than stock. Am i overclocked to much? I am using Asus AI overclock tuner it actually wont let me adjust the FSB in the Bios manually. It locks up at 30% (3.9 Ghz) and i must go back to 3.6. I think that might be my memory timings to tight though.

The computer ran fine under Prime95 stress test for 10 hours. I know that isnt enough but I had to use the computer and shut the test down. I am going to do a 24 hour stress test this weekend. Am i headed down the right road? how do i manually adjust this FSB speed?

PS. im a nOOb so let me know if you need more information :)

I am by no means an expert, but your 10 hour run with no errors on prime95 has the appearance of a stable OC.

I've never had prime95 give an error except in the first pass. If it makes it through the first pass of 1000 iterations, it's usually stable for the remainder of hours I leave it running.

edit: regarding adjusting the FSB, not all BIOS are created equal. You may be forced to use the windows utility for the OC

You aren't getting enough volts to the CPU. But heat is already a problem, so don't up the volts. My suggestion is to get better cooler, turn the overclock to manual, and keep pushing. 3.9 ghz isn't likely on an air cooled 3.0

You can never overclock "to much". Well, when it starts smoking it's safe to assume you've hit the limit ;)

If it's stable and you're happy with it then you're ok, if it's stable and you're not happy with it then ramp that sucker up some more.

Good luck with whatever you do.

you think i am too hot already?

Your idle is fine, but 56C isnt exactly cool. It isnt to bad for the processor, but most wouldnt push much further without a better cooler, especially if you have to raise the volts which will increase your temps by a lot, possibly hitting 60C load. It would be fine for just testing, but for a 24/7 speed I wouldnt. Your overclock should be stable after 10 hours. Why not try somthing like 3.7Ghz or somthing, why take such a huge jump from 3.6 to 3.9?
