I finally got around to building my own box for Hyper-V. Pics are meh, but I can't find my camera right now so I used my phone. I'm really happy with this case.

Core i7 920 (I bought a 950 and moved my 920 to the server#
Asus Sabretooth X58
24GB Corsair XMS 1333 #6x4GB#
1TB WD Black - 64mb Cache #x3#

The drives are JBOD for now. They're 6GB SATA and the RAID controller is only SATA 2, so I didn't see much point in RAID, yet. I'll probably use it to create AD test labs, as well as run Home Server, my own NPS/NAP stuff #more so I can show it to customers), and probably a few other things for demoing and testing.
 
My employer wouldn't appreciate me showing off competitor products while on site with customers :) That and I've got experience with ESX and none with Hyper-V. Dynamic memory seems like it could be pretty cool.
 
So far for us Dynamic memory has hurt performance. It seems to spend more time calculating how much memory the VM needs rather than give the VM any CPU time.

Nice rig though, not a bad lab setup, it's better than most of our production stuff LOL
 
I haven't really got in to any testing, yet. It would be interesting to do a comparison between the two, though I can't imagine there being much of a performance hit.

Thanks! I'm excited to finally have it running. I've got a few DCs, a CA, Windows Storage Server (for iSCSI), and Home Server running. Home Server is for me to get familiar with and won't be a part of my "mini-enterprise." I'm also running Forefront TMG to play around with.

What I really need to do is dig in to managing Hyper-V with PowerShell.

We use powershell to defrag vhds while they are online, bring the vm down, compact the vhd, export it, and bring it back up again. It's because we are too cheap to buy anything decent for backup, I just do full exports once a week.

Working on getting SCCM, SCVMM, and DPM 2010 going but as soon as I mention it costs more than 0$ it will probably get axed.
