Seagate ST3160023A-RK 160GB Retail Box Ultra DMA100, 8MB Buffer, 7200RPM

Seeing it on my computer like this:

Details: (E)
Local Disk
File System: NTFS
Free Space: 127 GB
Total Size: 127 GB

Where did the 30 gigs go...?

This problem has been asked MANY MANY times before.

Think of it as (if i have this correct):

Drive: 1MB as 1000KB = 160,000,000,000 bytes
Windows sees 1MB as 1024KB. So, 160,000,000,000/1024^3 = 149.01GB

...then, the NTFS FS takes up some room...although I've never known for it to take up 20GB...interesting

get service pack 1 and all the hot fixes, then go to the disk managment console and delete the partition and create a new one that has the whole 160 (149 or whatever) gigs. then format.

or use partition magic
