I just ordered all of the parts for my first build it yourself computer. I have someone who has built several computers helping me put everything together so I know im in good hands. I am posting this for your opinions on my hardware. I will be overclocking the memory and the cpu but not the video card as its pretty much maxed. Also, I will be setting up Raid 0 and im not quite sure how or what I need. Any advice on that is welcome as well. This computer will be used for video editing as I make machinima movies and my current pc is just way too underpowered with its 512 ram, onboard video, 2.4ghz p4, and 21inch crt(80 pounds i swear!)Any advice on that is welcome as well. Tell me how I did!

I like everything but that motherboard. I heard mixed feelings about ECS. But everything looks awesome and have fun with it. Hope that ECS works out for you.
 
Yeah, I really don't get how you can shell out for premium parts across the board only to attach them all to a cheap (all-around) motherboard.

The optical drive isn't too impressive either. BenQ? You could have had an NEC or a Pioneer for a couple dollars more.

The recent BenQ's are better quality than NECs and may be the most reliable burners at the moment. Also there is nothing wrong with ECS, I know people preach asus and intel boards but I've had great ECS boards and crappy asus boards, if the board had the wanted features it should be fine.
 
to bad intel mobos are usually prohibitively expensive, although they are good, and very stable, but hte probelm is does that motherboard even support the 9xx series. That is the real question.
 
hmm,.... yea, i've seen benchmarks for that ECS motherboard, and I've changed my opinion on them (atleast for Intel boards). That's a pretty good motherboard, in terms of performance. On air, which I'm assuming you are using standard stuff, that 930 will do pretty well for overclock (maybe a 1Ghz OC with your RAM). I had my eyes on that RAM for a second system but decided not to pick a second system up, lol. I do have a question about your power supply though. What did you choose as a power supply? That's a main component you have to look at when overclocking too =). Overall, that's a pretty good system, just need to post up your PSU and I think you're set.
 
I guess noone saw it but I have a question about Raid. Im going to be setting up Raid 0. Now the board says that it supports it, so is that something that is set up in the bios? I have heard from some people that I need a floppy disk drive. PLEASE HELP ME!
