I just finished decided what to get for my new computer for college. I'm on a $1,000 budget.
I'm upgrading from a MSI K7T266 Pro2, XP 2000+, Radeon 8500, 512MB PC2100. The only things I'm taking from my old computer are my Soundcard (TurtleBeach:SantaCruz), Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse.

-Newegg---------------------------

Case: Aspire X-Pider w/ 420W PSU
Fans: Zalman 80mm 20.6/36.5CFM 20/34.2dBA (5)
Motherboard: MSI NForce3 250 K8N Neo Platinum
Proccessor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 1MB L2 Cache
HSF: Thermaltake Venus 12
Video Card: Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB 256Bit
Memory: Crucial 184Pin 512MB PC3200 8T (2)
Hard Drive: WD 120GB 7200RPM SATA
CD/DVD Burner: NEC 8X DVD+RW/-RW Drive ND2500A

SubTotal: $999.23
S&H: $34.98
Total: $1,034.21

the only thing id change in your setup is your video card. Spend the extra $$ and go for atleast a 6800nu.

You might consider buying your hard drive/DVD burner at a local electronics store. Circuit City was running a 120GB WD for $39 after rebates, and you can typically find DVD Burners in the $50-70 range after rebates.

You probably don't have to go looking in stores for a DVD burner, since the ND2500A is already like $65 without rebates from Newegg. Plus, dealing with rebates sucks.

I'd stick with the 9800 Pro, the regular 6800 is probably not worth the extra $100.

Other than that, I guess good system.

I am probably going to go to CompUSA and Frys to see if there is anything I can get that is around the same price or cheaper before I order all of this online. The main things I'm looking for would be a case, psu, and maybe hard drive.
