Herman Miller Aeron.

I really like it. :D

What did you pay for it? I'm wearing out chairs every three years or so and I think it's about time I invested in one that will last.

Well, I got all the bells and whistles so it was just under $1300.00. If I was going to pay a thousand for a chair I wanted it to look like it. So, I got the extra polished aluminum frame and leather arms.

but, you can get a basic one for around $750.00.

I got it at sit4less.com. They seem to have the best prices.

I'd suggest looking at Embody and Mirra. I actually found the Mirra to be more comfortable than the Aeron after the adjustments and all. The Embody looks like an improvement.

The Embody is uglier than hell. It may even be the ugliest chair I've ever seen. The Mirra isn't much prettier. I've actually sat in Aeron's before and know that I like them. Plus they aren't hideous.

not to thread jack... but is that a poster of the Stig I see in the backround?

back on track... I have the aeron. for free even. I must admit it's a decent chair but I'm giving a serious look to the ergohuman. by chance did you give that a sit?

 Your chair is more than some people's entire setups here. I still can't believe you spent $1300 on a chair. I mean I can understand you probably use it a lot and want to invest in you having a good back for the rest of your life, but still, $1300. I love that chair style, but I feel like there's a lot of cheaper options that would deliver similar results.

We have those throughout our office complex. They seem to hold up really well. They've lasted years and still going strong. Incredibly comfortable. I personally have the Steelcase Leap at work, it's kind of a coin toss whether we got Leaps or Aeron's, and I like it quite a bit as well.

Definitely a HUGE difference in comfort between either of these and the $150 office depot chair I have at home =(

I am jealous. -glares at his rickety $100 Target Office chair-

Season 13? Don't you mean Series/Season 14?

What's the blue machine above the Alienware case?

Nothing very exciting for most around here.

It is a Silicon Graphics Octane2. It is a Unix machine, the OS is called Irix. That is what is running on the left most monitor.

SGI has a tremendous history, but it all went down in flames in the last decade or so. Its kinda sad actually.

I guarantee you have seen a movie that was rendered with SGI equipment, and maybe even one that featured SGI equipment.

I'm no chair expert nor what I'm about to type may be your thing with retrospect and all but ... couldn't you take the dam thing apart and have those options done for a far cheaper price then the difference of the two prices ? Never the less, it looks pretty sweet.

Maybe, but it would take along time to polish the frame of a standard one, if it can even be done. I don't know if I would want to pay almost a $1000 for a chair, and then immediately take power tools to it as soon as it arrives.

Ah, I thought it was an SGI machine. I've seen an Onyx 2 in action before, pretty cool machines. So what do you use the Octane2 for?

Yeah, I'll give ya that. One more thing, hows the adjustment from your ass to the backside of your knee, as in can you fill it somehow ? That in my experiance is the most important aspect of any chair because if you don't fill the backside of your knee it doesn't matter what you buy, it will wear you out. If your gonna sit for long periods of time that is.

I mostly got it for nostalgia value. It's crazy that my machine cost over $40,000+ in 2004.
I also wanted to learn a unix based system and do a little graphic editing, but mostly I wanted to discover some neat things can be done.

I don't have any trouble. The chair is designed to have you feet flat on the floor.

I just got a Steelcase Leap myself - the superior armrests won me over when I was on the fence. I don't like the armrests on the Herman Millers nearly as much, which is a shame since I though the Embody was the most comfortable chair I sat in (though not by a huge margin). Also, I found that the Mirra (with cloth upholstery) was more comfortable than the Aeron. Then again, I'm not sure if I demoed the right size Aeron. I hated the armrests on the Mirra though.

I tried some of the Ergohumans; they were decent but I didn't like how the plastic frame between the upper and lower back pieces sometimes dug into my back if I pressed back hard enough - though in general use it wasn't a problem.

I also tried a Steelcase Think. The back felt nice except for the slight pressure the top edge put on my upper back; not painful but annoying in an otherwise very comfortable chair. The construction seemed rather flimsy compared to the leap though. The chair didn't have many adjustments; I figured the chair is probably best when shared between multiple people. The multitude of adjustments on the Leap are better suited to a single person.

Definitely try before you buy when you're spending this much money on a chair. All the forum posts and chair reviews in the world won't tell you if a chair is perfect for you. I almost bought a Think blindly thinking it was perfect until trying it alongside a Leap and a bunch of Herman Millers.

Nice chair.

My chair is an Office Max piece of crap. I have a hard time spending money on chairs. Though my back would thank me if I did.

Are they restricted in how far they swing in and out, or can they go 180 degrees to the back as well?

So how do you like it after a few days?

I would say it is only about 30 degrees. Go to their website, I think it is demonstrated on there.

I am still loving it. Makes me feel so good. haha.
