Well I picked up this case rather cheap :)

It comes with (2) Antec 400w Redundant PSU!!!! So a total of 800w..

I am going to be modding this and I am still in the development stage and I need some ideas.. So please post them if you got some!

Specs:

Features of the case includes:
Eight (8) 5.25 hidden
Three (3) cooling fans--two in and one out
Dual Antec 400W power supply.
Metallic mesh screen door
Charcoal grey case
Side door has lock, but I do not have the key (currently unlocked)
25x19x11
 
First of all you need to probably get a key for the lock or get a new lock for the side door, but this isn't really necessary because the case will probably just stay in your house. Second, spend about a day sleeving all of those cables! Third, how much money are you going to spend on the case and the components going into the case? Maybe you should go with water cooling because that case can probably fit a big radiator right inside of it. Forth, cut a window on the side, with some cathodes and put some fans on the top and side. ;)
 
what do you intend to do with the computer?

It obviously won't be a LAN machine. And i'm going to guess and say it won't be your main machine either?

So that means it's just going to be an extra PC. (fileserver perhaps?) I would do some of the "usual" mods out there on it, besides that I'm not sure.

And while watercooling is VERY possible on that case, obviously, unless it's going to be an overclocked (or silent) PC, going the WC route will probably not be worth it (imho).

With a case that big I'd really enjoy trying to show off the hardware, and not the hardware. See if maybe you can figure a way to route all the wires in the most unseen way possible, then use mirrors / polished metal / foil tape / whatever is reflective, to make the inside have a wierd mirror house affect. and of course some nice windows to show this off. hopefully you followed that one. hehe.
 
Getting a key for the lock is not an issue.. I have a friend who works for a locksmith and he says he has tools to discover the key numbers and just cut me one...

So that is not an issue...

But I dont like the color and it has scratches.. So I want to sand it down (or sand blast it, I have another friend who works with one at his job) and prime/paint it...

It is quite large!

The specs I have will probably be a dual Xeon 3.06GHz setup with a 9800Pro (upgraded to a 9800XT), and a few scsi drives or ATA... Depends on my mood :D

It will be my home server and whatever I may fancy....

I really want it to look good and have my friends drool...

I was looking at the cameleon paint color similar to the one they use on the custom viper color... But not sure...
 
Damn sweet! Gotta love all the 5.25 bays, i have all six of mine used up. I like the removable hard drive racks a lot thats why i have a lot used up. With all the drives you could fit in there and the 2 PSUs, it would probably be a good idea to make a couple blowholes on top. That and a few more intake fans, like the other person said, watercooling is possible, but not really a mod. Since I'm not a real casemodder i can't really give many suggestions on what to do, but i do like the case.

What kind of racks are you using? I was thinking about using a few Vantec Vortex to cool the drives and to allow them to fit in a 5.25 drive bay...

Since I am very new to modding (this is my first project)

What bit attachments do you use to cut steel from a case like that? Does the bit last long enough to finish the work? Or would the steel chew those bits like candy?

Also the case is not thin.. The metal is very solid and not cheaply made!

Since you say its thick steel, and obviously a huge case, I wouldn't bother trying to dremel the windows. You would need probably in excess of 100 heavy duty wheels to cut out a window that big in thick steel. I would look into a jigsaw with an abrasive blade, or finding someone to get it plasma cut or lasered. If you go the laser route it can be done for about $200 and you can have a really nice intricate design or logo cut out instead of just a plain rectangular window.

I just run some cheap Kigwin KF-101-IPF racks, not the most efficient coolers (one weak little fan on the bottom below the motor) but they seem to ge the job done. Later i might try some more pricey solutions but these seem to be working fairly well. i have to admit that Vantec one looks pretty sweet.

I have no clue who makes it.. I might be able to see a QA stamp once I get it..

I am also debating on keeping or selling the redundant Antec 400w psu :)
 
Where did you find that awesome chassis?

I'd keep the redundant power supply if I were you...
